Let's Talk About Our Community...

First and foremost, I would like to say thank you. As far as I can tell, the community on this server and in this forum in general far surpasses that of the other PvP servers for various reasons. I am very happy that a little *project* (some will know what I speak of) came to bloom and it looks like everything is going on track, if not better.

I would like to make this a DEBATE thread to propose some general ideas and philosophies that *could* make the server an even better place. I define debate as intelligent, emotionally detached arguing for an opposite, "better", or different purpose. Please post with supporting statements and with intelligence, not just saying yes or no.

As a last note, these are just *MY* ideas. You can agree or disagree on them and their purposes, but provide backup to your arguments. The purpose of this thread is to find the best end result, not just argue. That is the purpose of debating.

1. I would like to see a high level of respect among the server, both players and guilds. I already see it in these forums, but I hope it carries over in-game. I know not all of you will absolutely love each other player or guild, but keep it civil. Most of us (hopefully) play this game to PLAY, not have drama etc. As a GM I tell my members to be respectful both in-game and on the forums. At the same time, I cannot always be there to ensure it happens. People post stuff without thinking and stuff happens. Just remember that in the long run, everyone wants to be respected more than trolled or flamed on.

2. Respect ties into PvP. I *really* hope that when people say they are going to look for PvP at max level, the first thing that pops into their heads isn't "Hey, let's go to LUMBERTOWN." I love Open World PvP. At the same time, I doubt low levels like getting insta-gibbed by higher people. Most of us have all done it at some point, but can we keep the low level ganking down? Nothing makes new players feel less "at home" then being completely ganked by higher characters they really have no chance at. There IS a difference between PvP and Ganking.

3. Group PvP in open world. Many of you love to go out in groups, whether it be anywhere from 2 to 20 people. If you are a group of 15 and find a group of 5 you want to PvP, don't use all 15. Split a 5m group off and give them a chance. Be respectful of your PvP community, nobody enjoys being beaten down by impossible numbers.

4. This one is based on ASSUMING The Group Finder/BGs/SvS will be, well, cross server. If you use one of these features, be the bigger (server?). Show the other servers we are better than them, not only in quality of skill but in respect and personality. Represent us well!

5. OBT/HS. I personally know WE (Luciform) will not be doing that much PvP during OBT/HS. We are planning to hit max level and do things productive to longer term endgame, such as grind Professions as high as we can. PvP just seems lackluster at lower levels when we are *now* grinding for the real game, and other stuff matters. I cannot tell you to do anything, but put it this way. If everyone gets their professions going early, we will have a great server economy. More people with the capability to produce means lots of buying and selling. This helps out the people looking to buy and sell their wares, etc.

6. Don't put up with disrespect on a large scale, whether it be verbal or through actions. One thing here and there is unavoidable, but if some guild expects to roll on the server and troll it to trash, I expect everyone to make their lives miserable to show them we will not put up with it as a server.

7. Events. Multiple people will (hopefully) be organizing them. Whether they be RP events, 5v5 or 10v10 tournaments, GvG wars, etc, do it well. We will have to make the fun for the server for a bit like in old(er) games, but it can be some of the best fun you will ever have. Reach out, communicate to other Guild Leaders or groups, and get stuff together. If you are bored, do not simply sit around and moan about how bored you are. Do something about it ^.^.

I had a bunch more to say, but I just woke up and I am starving. I will post what I have and come back to view the replies, and add/remove as I remember stuff and the thread evolves. Please remember, these are only my opinions and ideas, they are ALWAYS subject to change by means of intelligent debate showing there are better ones. If you think you can add to, modify, or cancel out an idea, by all means do it. I just want this server to be awesome, and taking steps to start that is a beginning.

Reason #2 is the main reason I made a guild named "Valkyrie" (here comes shameless advertising) valkyriesoftera.enjin.com. The concept is pretty much preventing stuff like Lumbertown Bridge Camp from happening. It's really childish and all it does is breed "Gank" behavior. Because the lowbies that were ganked when they were small, feel its alright to do it later when they level up.

I agree that this server is really starting to shape up to be one of the more mature servers, and I do hope it stays that way. But I have a feeling that TERA itself will probably turn out to be one of the more mature type games (at least I hope so).

That doesn't mean just because we're mature players that we have to be "Noobs". I really don't understand how "Being Pro" coincides with also being a Douche-bag.

That's why I like that guild SYNTHESIS' guild statement. If you check out their forum post, its pretty awesome.

So far seems that Basilisk Crag community will be really good, probably the best I ever saw in a game.

I agree with mostly all you said, Mizugami, and I always had the same mindset about my team over the years I played MMOs.

In a server like this, I do believe that the Guild Masters duty will be even more important than in other situations, because the community really got a high level, so in order to enjoy a more interesting game, the participation/interaction between the GMs will be important to provide events and large PvP battles (what I really seek for).

I do believe as well that if all the respect I see until now keep on, we have everything need to enjoy the maximum that this game can offer through the Political System and the RP atmosphere that Basilisk Crag will have. Talking about RP topic, I would like to the RP Guilds have some kind of organization about the RP scenery that will be going on, events, etc... This is something that Im really interested, even tho my Guild is not RP.

I also though that, in order to protect low level players from open world PvPs, we could agree to realize this kind of battle in another channels than the 1st, this way battles in places like Lumbertown would not reach who is passing by there going for questing etc.

Protect the new players mean a stronger and bigger community in the future. If we harm them, we'll be feeding a raged and unhappy population, and this is never good.

But try to apply any sort of rules to a entire community is not good and would never work. The point to be a community, and not a single large guild, is the difference between each other way to think, and the expectations about the game. This is the fun, and by this we'll have our wars and the PvP that everyone seek for. If everything is way too friendly and full of rules we end up in a Smurfs realm. Respect is extremely important, but competition and differences are the spice of PvP scenery.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

I agree with everything you said. Especially the ganking.
It never stopped me from leveling as it was easy enough to run away and/or change channels, but i know on Jagged Coast in CBT5 alot of people where having problems with it. And i will gladly be the first to go PK someone who is ganking lowbies. Im glad i picked this server and i hope the mature playerbase sticks around

I didn't get hugged enough as a child and was beaten within an inch of my life everytime I spoke out. Emotionally detached enough for you?

As it stands though, the forum community makes up a VERY small portion of the BC populace as a whole. I understand what you're trying to do here and I respect it, but the problem is most people will presumably follow their own ideology to play. Now that could mean playing against everything stated in your guideline and/or going out of their way to do everything in their power to fight the general populace's mindset.

And we have to respect that.

My advice? Let people play according to their own rules. I'm sure there will be some folks that will already be following rules similar to what you've stated and it may even help some others reconsider on how they planned on playing, but give the BC community a chance to dictate what they deem is right.

That. Your idea of fun may not be equal to someone else's. Remember that.

You can make all the "rules" you want. We will break them.

I played a game for 5 years with people who constantly tried to make rules and a code of ethics on an open pvp server.

they all died lots. there is a limit where you're going with this.

I am not trying to make "rules" at all, just seeing what the community thinks of things. I would be fooling myself if I expected even a small percentage of people to "follow" these.

I just want to put them out there to show what people are interested in and why. I want this server and community to be better in general compared to the others.

I respect and recognize the differences between any and all of us, that is what makes things fun. At the same time, there are general things like respect where a little among the populace can go a LONG way. I simply stated my OP for the fact of attempting to see if any others were of the same mindset as myself and to see if they are interested in creating a server and community as I am.
