I am a male and always role as a male character..
From years and years of MMO experience I know that people act and treat you differently when rolling a female. Even though most players should assume that the female is being controlled by a male, not all do. It is a bit out of my comfort zone to tell a player,
"I am a male.." When some guys try to be a "charmer" over the game. But to each their own, I always say. :D
I'm playing a male character, and I'm a woman. I usually play female characters in MMO's but that's mainly because there aren't many games out there that have appealing models for their male characters and I can't use their creation tools to create the one I want. Hence, I usually end up with a female. This time around though I can make exactly the character I want, and I've had him in mind for a very long time now.
Also, for some reason I've always struggled to RP female characters, which is why I've never really done it much until now. In my writing, most of my main characters are male.
I can't be a female popori, so obviously not. I could, however, understand a female playing a male since she'd want to be a popori, aka the kings of this game.
I am a male and tend to equally play both male and female toons. Some seem more predisposed to certain classes and roles. An example in wow would be I went with a Male Draenei Priest and a Female Draenei Shaman because it felt right. My Trolls had to be female and my Tauran had to be male, just my preference I guess.
Consequently, My first toon in Tera for OB will be a Castanic Sorceror named Jahannum, and according to the back story I devised for her she is a hermaphrodite. So I dont know what to say to that in relation to this thread.
I feel as though I should point out that gender and sex are different things. Your sex is determined by your physiology (sex organs and such), gender on the other hand is extremely hard to pin down since it's a social construct, and can change depending on each person's social upbringing.
So if you ask me "Do you play a different gender then you are in real life?" Then the answer is no, I don't. But for me personally I can play either a male or female and feel like I'm still my own gender. Gender lines are rather blurred...
My main is always a male toon--its what i do business as. I honestly feel guys create thier fantasies through the female toons they create.
Not for me Sadoris, I just dont want to stare at a man for hours on end. Females are more aesthetically pleasing. I do however look forward to playing a Baraka and a Popori.
I play a female, while my wife plays a male. It is much more enjoyable, allowing us to live the life of the other gender through the game as we intend to be in-character 100% of the time.
I find that RPing as a female is no more difficult than RPing as a male. You have women that have strong masculine personalities and vice versa. Just as long as you feel comfortable in the role you have chosen for yourself.
