Warrior Backstab ability wtf?

So I got backstab today. What is up with my camera being left behind when I use this skill ? The ability is to stun the opponent which it does. But it also leaves me disoriented waiting for my camera to catch up..

Is this working as intended ? because it feels completly broken to me. Its almost like a 1 sec stun on yourself as you wait for your camera to reset.

I don't have a Warrior but I think I know what you're talking about. The Sorc/Mystic teleport does the same thing - your character teleports forward and a half second later your camera catches up. So for a bit you see your character from far away and then suddenly you're right behind yourself again.

Slayer right? I didn't know Warriors got a backstab if you are talking Warrior...

But yes, as a Slayer with backstab, there is a camera delay to catch up to where you teleported behind the mob. It usually gives you enough time to get off a Heart Thrust to the back before the mob turns.

But yeah, feels broken. Just like Heart Thrust awkward hit box broken.

Yes, there is a camera delay as it repositions you. I am not sure this would be classified as broken, but it would be nice if the delay was not pronounced or disorientating.

What the challenge is if you are pressing a movement key and activating the backstab skill, I find that when I first started using the ability I saw an increase in the chance of missing the target with a chained skill.

Once I got more comfortable with the skill, I started to predict better.

Backstab is problematic when trying to backstab a target that is on either an incline or decline. You will fall short of the target. I believe I read somewhere that abilities that move you forward will prevent you from falling off edges of the cliff/world. I am not sure how valid this is as the target would also have to be off the edge of the cliff/world. This suggests that backstab is a straight line to the target and any increase or decrease in the angle to get to the target signifies potentially a cliff/world falling possibility.

One tip I found useful until I got more comfortable with attacking with backstab was that before activating something like Combative strike, Pounce..etc, was to start auto-attacking right after a backstab. You are regenerating some MP while the camera angle is changing as well as reducing the chances to miss the target once you adjust as our auto-attack animation will probably still hit a target even if we are slightly off.

The stun "should" still be up after the camera angle adjusting and glyph for increased duration is also a good consideration (http://teracodex.com/item/6252).

Thanks for the tip.. I actually started using auto attack like you said because I found if i used skills i would most of the time end up missing my target and wasting them

There is an option that lets you attack in the direction your character is facing instead of the standard attack in direction of crosshairs/camera. You can only access this if you plug in a gamepad. However, you can still use the keyboard to control your character-just leave the gamepad plugged (but don't use it).

If you do this you can use skills straight after backstab and will not miss. Its good for pvp when the stun time is halved and losing that second while the camera spins around is really annoying. In pve it doesn't really matter-you can still get a full dps rotation off even after waiting for the camera to adjust.

the camera reposition for backstab initially is a bit jarring but it allows me to take a breath and then return to the quick action.

great ability

@Yassha

I use controller with the "attack in the direction your character is facing" option. I've never tried it the other way.

For me Backstab works awesome - I luvs it to death and the range on it is great.

Yes exactly-if you play with a controller that is the default setting I think, and it works really nicely with quite a few warrior skills.

The other way is the keyboard default setting (which you can't change unless you plug a controller in). With that setting you attack in the camera direction (towards the crosshairs) for most attacks. After you do backstab, if you quickly chain to another skill (I have pounce) you go jumping off in the wrong direction, because the camera takes about a second to swing around to the way you are facing.

And yes I agree backstab is an insanely good skill!
