Something Terable, An Introduction

Hi, we're Something Terable, and we probably haven't met. And that's our fault.

There's a lot of misinformation in-game about what we are and aren't, so we'd like to take the opportunity to let you know a bit about Something Terable. We keep a low profile in-game and on these forums because we're a low stress, low drama kind of guild. When it comes to both our guild and the rest of the community at large, our mantra is basically "have fun, and play the game how you want to play it." And we wouldn't have it any other way. On behalf of Something Terable and our GM, Girl, I'd like to take a moment to formally introduce our guild to the Dragonfall community.

Our guild originates from the Something Awful forums, a community of nearly 165,000 members, but our membership includes a wide variety of SA members as well as non-members, hailing from all across the globe.

Perhaps you've come across Something Awful guilds in other games, and your experiences playing with them are likely quite varied. Each one of our gaming guilds is unique, and Something Terable has nothing in common with any of these other guilds, aside from the fact that we all have a membership to the same internet community. Some of these guilds have reputations as "troll guilds" and/or actively seek to impact the gaming community in a less than positive manner, for their own gain. Something Terable is NOT this sort of guild. Sure, we have an off-beat sense of humor, but we're really just a guild like any other -- we're friendly and laid back, and we hope to have a positive impact on the Dragonfall community.

There has been a rumor going around that Something Terable is a "hardcore zerg guild" (what does that even mean???). Yes, we have some members who enjoy aggressively pursuing endgame content; that's how they want to play the game, and we're totally cool with that. But we're a very large guild, and we also have many more casual players, pursuing their own goals at their own speed -- whether it be crafting supremacy, logging in a couple times a week to blow off some stress in a dungeon, or being the source of delicious comedy in guild chat while they hopelessly battle the enchanting RNG boss.

Our only rule for the guild is to simply have fun, and that's a big reason why we have the largest population and the most praises on the server. We delight in having a healthy mix of player types and personalities, and we're always keen to make new friends and enrich the Dragonfall community in any way that we can. Our praises are evidence of the positive experience that many of you have had with our guild, and we're excited that we can soon trade these praises for policy points, to offer more Vanarch-related benefits to the community than any other guild on the server.

If you ever have any questions whatsoever, please don't hesitate to contact our GM, Girl, and she'll be quite excited to meet, greet and talk about whatever is on your mind. Seriously, don't hesitate, she's more than happy to let one of her group members die in a dungeon for the sake of good conversation! :P

And if you're looking for a guild, give us a shout -- we're always working to enrich our ranks with like-minded individuals who are looking to have a good time in TERA.

Of course, we'd be delighted to have you vote for Girl for Vanarch during the current election. She's uniquely positioned to do some pretty awesome things for the server, and we can't wait to bring these plans to fruition if she wins Ostgarath. But even if you don't vote for her, we're still on your side, and we'd love to get to know each and every one of you on Dragonfall.

Have fun, and don't believe the hype -- get to know us for yourselves.

i`d vote you for vanarch, but i wouldn`t vote for someone speaking for someone else...lol.

you`re also pretty famous on urbandictionary, and maybe you`re all amazing, friendly and awesome people, not like i`d know since i don`t, but people gain bad reputations for a reason, otherwise why even associate yourself with it if you weren`t like that?

That's because their a zerg guild. That's what happens when you let anyone join your guild. you get a lot of bad apples dragging you guild down the hole. I have heard this rumor to but i'm not going to judge them on a few bad members in their guild. If I was GM I would clean house and find out who these bad apples are.

and since you are new to MMOs here's the definition of Zerg:
zerg is used in mmo games to describe force consisted of large group of lower level players (often with only basic equipment) who use numbers rather then strategy to defeat the enemy, therefore requiring no skill. This tactics is commonly known as zerging

Is zerging in Tera even possible though? I mean we aren't on an open PVP server and the mobs above one's level hit really really hard. I don't think a zerg analogy could even apply to this game let alone anyone in it.

Heck, you run into a dungeon at the first level it becomes available to you and without the gear and most mobs will two-shot you. I really don't think this zerging analogy works in this game at all.

so basically what im getting from this is Something Terable is a mega guild that built themselves not within the community of TERA, but on the something aweful site. Theyve admitted theyve isolated themselves from the community because theyre "layed back"

coincidentally they were leading the poles in the vanarchy until shortly before this post popped up, where suddenly they feel they need to explain themselves. Now "Enclave" who is a very active participant in out servers community is leading the poles.

i mean honestly I thought you guys were a gold farming guild due to your GM's name being "girl". sorry, but ive seen too many gold farmers running around with the names "boy" "baby" "girl" in my previous MMO days and your info for vanarchy doesnt help> "im so kwaaiii".. wtf is that? it almost mocks the entire vanarchy election, where most guilds are giving reasonable info like they give 2[filtered]s.

gratz on being a large guild though

Something Terable or bust. And bust isn't even a guild so you should probably vote for us anyway.

SA guilds don't typically open recruitment to any non-SA members. This usually only happens when a lot of people leave the game.

P.S. - You can't zerg in this game on a PvE server.

Please explain how to be "active" in a server's community.
Is it by talking in area chat/lfg?
Since when has it been a bad thing to keep to yourself and play with guildies?
I myself pug all the time, but I enjoy playing with people I know more than random people.
I'm still a relatively new member, and I joined after having a positive experience with their members.
We can afford to be laid back because we have a large guild already.
People apply on their own without us having to actively recruit because they've had a positive experience with us.
If they're interested, we talk to them first to get a feel for them.
Girl talks to them too and adds them if they're ok with going with the flow.
Does that really make us a zerg guild?
Should we be more selective about members based on their gear?
Ask for a resume?
We have a variety of players; from people striving for endgame content as well as people who level at their own pace, enjoying the game for what it is.
A game.
Is that really hardcore?
We have people in all level ranges.
We don't scream at them to get to 60.
Don't you want an active guild for your vanarch?
You need policy points to keep things open.

As for the election statement, it was obviously a joke.
Did it really seem that malicious? Were you that offended by it?
It was to relieve all the tension built up around the whole mess of a political system.
We enjoy jokes. Look at our posters and statements.
Do yourself a favor and laugh at something once in a while.
Take a look at all the other statements.
They say the same. damn. thing. Which isn't a bad thing. Just boring.
If we were to tax the hell out of the vendors and be as ruthless as some people are spreading on lfg/area chats, then we'd basically just screw ourselves for the next vanarch.
Sorry, we're not that short sighted nor that malicious.

We have the most praises on the server.
Not by a small margin either.
Girl has already explained that we will use them to benefit the community.
Not like the praises do anything for us as a guild.
It's to help the province.
People will randomly praise us because they had a good experience with us in a pug or simply because we were nice to them.

Now, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're just a bystander with his own twisted way of reasoning out his own "logic".
But perhaps you should consider getting to know us before branding us with some label that you arbitrarily decided upon.
At the very least, we don't feel the need to spam lfg and area chat with slander on opposing guilds.
We prefer to keep to ourselves and keep it clean.
It's a damn game. No need to be so cut throat about the whole thing.
The graphics are beautiful and the combat is damn fun.
No need to suck the life out of it with all this political bull[filtered].
