I have vacation I never use... So I took off Friday just so I could play from Thurs-Sun night.

Too late? If its personal vacation or even just vacation I have never known a work place to be upset for just calling in 5minute before a shift and saying... Yeah, Im taking a vacation day.
You should check you still might be able to get it off with no issue
