So we're nearing the first official weekend of Feral Valley, the prime time of the server, what with a good majority of the people I've met having either college or a job to attend to; and i thought it time for me to shed a little light onto the feelings of the server, and maybe explain a couple of the things going on.
First off, there is quite a bit of hubub going around, about a good majority of the larger guilds surrendering their guild battles. I figured I'd cover that topic first.
If you take a look at the battle history, most of the guild battles against guilds on the front page, are started by the same guilds. (Hymn, That Just Happened, Adventure Time, Prime, V i P, Lords of Death), and those are just the ones I picked out glancing over the GvG History list.
For the majority of these guilds, what I've seen is that they are founded by a few, or in some cases quite a few transfer characters, so had a head start on any player that rolled fresh on Feral Valley. (The max any of us got to prior to the transfers rolling in was around 20-30.)
While this wouldn't be so much of an issue, it's their behavior that concerns me, and yet at the same time does not. They seem more focused on the numbers of their guild battle right now, than any actual PvP or skill involved, focusing on the newbie areas to farm.
Now, serious PvP'rs, would argue that this is a PvP server and is excusable, and normally I'd be inclined to agree, were it not the case that they were allowed to bring over characters from servers that people that started fresh would not be able to have. Entire guilds that were focused on teaching new players, would not be able to properly defend them. This blows all excuses for this sort of behavior out of the water.
Any guild that is concerned about the healthiness of PvP, and the longevity of competition in the server as a whole understands this. The majority of the larger guilds are focusing on grinding their members to end content, to allow the PvP on this server to move away from threatening new players, and to content a bit more challenging and on a level playing field.
To this end, the larger guilds, myself excluded, have begun surrendering all battles against them, to lessen the threat to their newbies, as player gankers already exist, and offering guilds the unpenalized opportunity to do so is just adding to the incentive to do it. I myself, will not be surrendering any guild battles, to show that even if you camp my members, and try and break our morale, we will still level to end game, and bring the fight back to you, when you can't use transferred characters or power grinding to earn easy points.
I welcome any challenges from guilds at that point, that think they still have the "skill" to steamroll guilds.
With that aside, the guilds that are not focused on GvG's right now, all seem to be on somewhat friendly terms, with plans down the road to bring friendly, and competitive PvP to each other, on a much grander scale. I fully expect long term battles that actually push to, and break the GvG point limit coming, and those will certainly be a sight to behold.
My encouragement to new players on the server, and new players that join the larger guilds, and have had to suffer this ganking is as follows: It will get better. Determination is key here. It takes no skill to click two buttons and one shot someone ten to twenty levels blow you. I've faced quite a few of these gankers myself. They have the power and the gear, but most of them fumbler when it comes to playing their characters. Give it time. :)
I welcome other members of the server to input their advice, as well as their thoughts on the server thus far. I also full expect TLDR's, and prideful gankers to come here and defend themselves as well.
(I may or may not have been on vicadin at the time of this posting, but who cares)
Love you all,
