Tera newcomers and Freeholds appreciators

Hello,
My significant other and I have recently starting playing Tera this past week. We signed up for the 7 day free trial. We have been enjoying the experience of the game play and the overall "temperature" of the common channels (LFG, Area).

We spent some time getting a feel for each class. Over the first three days, we have leveled a bunch of alts to level 10+ to get a feel for some of the basic game play. I (Edhin) am more melee centric where my significant other (Rosaelyn) is healer centric.

After those three days, we have both purchased the game and added subscriptions to our accounts.

I have chosen to be a Warrior and Rosa has chosen to become a Mystic. I have really enjoyed the look and feel of the two one-handed weapons. Rosa has definitely felt comfortable so far with healing. I do joke with her a lot whenever I hear "plink," so that I run over and pick up a healing orb (vitae?). She is definitely an orb litter bug when we have done BoL together.

Well, after wiping my blades clean with the gore from rampaging Terons, Kumas, Basilisks, and the like, we are definitely trying to understand more of the game.

If people of this server could pass on some previous experiences, what would new players really need to understand to get more immersed into Tera?

We both understand that seeing the full dynamic of the game will involve eventually joining a guild. We are both pretty voracious quest and dungeon runners. I am not sure that I am planning to become a tank as a Warrior as DPS is my current focus. Rosa is an extremely empathetic and dedicated healer, so my shenanigans that a melee enjoys (insert over-pulling here) keeps her on her toes.

In short (TLDR), we are looking for helpful people to perhaps guide us on how to make more informative decisions about progressing through Tera. We are both level 25, so we have really only enjoyed the group quests around BoL, BoL itself, and the group quests in the Celestial Hills (I think that is the name of the zone with Kumas and Nagas).

Cheers,
Edhin

Good post.

My main on the server is Landstander, a level 33 Lancer that's unquestionably tank-oriented. I've been mostly going it alone as well as I just really haven't found a guild that feels like it fits yet. You guys sound like you're blitzing through at a pretty good pace so you'll probably catch up to me in no time (I only WISH my girlfriend played :P).

From my experience, TERA seems to do a pretty good job EVENTUALLY questing you toward finding out all the little intricacies and elements to flesh out your TERA experience.

Personally, I'd love to talk shop with you guys sometime. You seem pretty cool. Maybe we can even start our own guild of like-minded cool dudes.

The questing has been enjoyable, regardless of some gaming reviews I have read recently. I do see patterns in many of quests where you kill monsters with minions only to receive a quest later to kill either differently named monster of the same type or slightly upgraded versions thereof.

The BAM quests have been crazy fun, though. Rosa and I have been enjoying tackling the Kumas and beasts. We have made some newly found friends along the way as we take the time to enjoy the kills by grabbing anyone who asks to be a part of a kill. I think we helped 3 people last night get through all of the BAM quests in Celestial hills. By help, I do not mean that in a condescending way at all like we are "the pwn," but more from out of openness to group and be sociable.

As for the guild creation, we will have to think on that. =) That is an interesting idea, but we may want to observe an existing guild to see how a guild functions. If you have some insight into the guild dynamic, I am definitely curious about your experiences what makes a "good" or "bad" guild.

As for leveling, we are pretty goal oriented. I think we are on the cusp of out-leveling BoL, so we are questing until we can see when the next dungeon is. I should research the dungeons levels and gear level required for each to observe how far we need to work towards in preparing for a dungeon. If we catch up to your tank, I am sure Rosa and I would enjoy healing/dps'ing with you.

Cheers,

I don't suppose you're Arrio and Rosalynna from Aion?

@Shinsetsu
Rosa and I have not played Aion together. I believe Rosa tested Aion for a little while, but I have not played it myself.

If these two people were your friends, I am sorry to disappoint you in that regard as good friends are hard to find.

If these two people were perhaps less than friendly or respectful types, perhaps Rosa and I can be a new incarnation for people that we meet in Freeholds.

@ Edhin - The next dungeon is SM (Sinestral Manor) at level 26 I believe.

As a Lancer I'm usually able to solo BAMs, that's also not me bragging, it's just the way the class is designed. The problem that creeps in there is that it takes me forever to bring the thing down. Still pretty fun and nice in a pinch when there's no one nearby to help out.

The most "good" and "bad" I've experienced with guilds would be from WoW experience as I simply haven't had much in the way of luck latching on to a guild in TERA so far. Part of that is wariness...I know a few warning signs to look for as far as how they relate to my own particular playstyle. Unintentionally abysmal spelling, grammar, and poor sense of humor turn me off. So does INTENTIONALLY "ironic" abysmal spelling and grammar in most cases. I made an earlier post about this that received plenty of views but no responses or offers - I'd like to find a semi-casual, laid-back guild with some level of intelligence and maturity. I haven't given up looking yet.

I just hope I'm not too much of a square. Is that still a thing people call people?

That being said, hey, feel free to add me to your friends list. Even if we don't come to a long-term arrangement, you can always shout if a tank would make things easier (and vice versa).

@Radbytrade
You definitely cleared up what the "SM" acronym meant. Thank you. I was sitting there going "Scarlet Monastery."

Rosa and I also play WoW a couple nights a week for our raid nights, but that is pretty low maintenance. We have been playing other games to keep things diverse and meet new people. I won't talk too much about WoW here as there is a wide index from people who dislike or enjoy that title.

I believe that I understand what you are saying about the grammar and spelling. I am not sure I have an opinion either way on it. I use those type of internet language shortcuts from time to time out of convenience and widespread understanding, but I do prefer a more thought out sentence if I had a choice. English is a difficult language with all of the meanings of words and phrases as it is related to pop culture or just ambiguous references.

Rosa and I do not type to one another in the game as we use Ventrilo while we play. When we group with people, we simply just communicate better that way. I will call out when melee is low or she will give me a heads up from the backfield if she needs help.

I do not think you are square at all. I am old enough to understand that reference. ;-)

I will add you to my friends list when next I log on. Rosa and I both play in the Eastern timezone and we both have day jobs during the week, so we are evening players during the week.

Cheers,
Edhin

I'd just like to say that while I haven't even touched the game yet (new computer's due to arrive tomorrow, finally), I like everything I see here, and I too will be looking for that brand of semi-casual, intelligent, mature, friendly guild.

I got nudged toward this server by a friend who plays every once in a while -- I'd be happy to meet up at some point, and maybe we can start a guild together. Judging from how people seem to talk in glowing terms about this server's population, recruiting members might not even be difficult.

(I am being ridiculously optimistic, I realize, but I've been looking forward to Not-WoW for an awfully long time, and in so many ways.)

Anyhow, I'll see you in-game within the week, I wager. Been nice reading you!

@Zenza
I thank you for your kind words. I have been researching and play testing melee classes again (Slayer and Warrior).

I have characters on two different servers. I will not mention the other server's name as I do not feel this is the tactful location to speak of such things. For those that may want to guess, it is not Dragonfall.

I was lucky late last night and I was able to speak with the Vanarch of the Isle of Dawn on this server. This person was a Warrior (like my main) and he seemed to be in a talkative mood that night. I spoke at length about various dynamics of the game with him. Questions on how guilds work, melee class viability, and class distribution of end game dungeons and outdoor events.

I also had a chance to talk with another level 60 officer who was also melee to really get a feel for things. Based upon their warm interest in my questions, I have joined their guild with my Warrior.

This will probably deter me from playing all my alts on Freeholds for the time being, so I wish you luck on the Freeholds server. =)

I have not spoken to any guilds on Freeholds, so do not take the fact that I chose another guild on a different server as a sign of the quality of Freeholds guilds. Also, I will not mention my current guild for the same reasons above to be tactful to this server.

I apologize if I have offended anyone that I have left this server. It was not because of negative reasons. I could use a metaphor of meeting a friend at a bar, you talk and really identify with mutual ideals and he happens to have a job at his company. Random chance is the only reason.

Cheers,
