I wish Tera had a reason to "explore" such as Rift did, with finding hidden collectibles and such

makes exploring more of an incentive that way

Exploring reaps it's own rewards. If Tera did something similar we'd see 10 million, "Tera stole this from Rift" threads.

I don't care if they stole something from another game. MMOs steal stuff from each other all the time. A good idea is a good idea.

Why not? Rift stole it from EQ2.. or was it another game before that.

This is MMO land, everyone "borrows".

But I agree exploring in a game like Tera IS it's own reward, the game world is gorgeous.

While it might be sort of cool to get some sort of explorer title from finding hidden places or going every where I find that given how good looking this game is I just want to go places because they look nice.

While I agree that taking good aspects and improving on them is a good thing, continual repetition is whats caused almost every MMO in the past 6 years to fail. Why? Because they all looked at Wow and all the BAZILLIONS Blizzard was making and decided they want some.

Why play a knockoff of a mmo you already play and enjoy? You won't. That's why Wow has stayed on it's throne for the past half a decade flinging peas at the heads of other MMOs and making them sad and depressed.

And yet we still have Nexuses..

But seriously, +1 to this thread. Exploring is a huge part of why I play open world MMOs.
The thing is, Rift was made for exploring, TERA is not.
There are offensive texture seams on the edges of mountains. If you climb high enough, you can see the edge of the world (from quite a ways out). Hell, if you swim around a mountain you can see the edge of the world. In Rift, if you wanted to get behind Meridian, you would be treated with two guards and the ability to climb atop the highest building and declare yourself king to the public below. In TERA if you want to go behind Velika, all you are rewarded with is an unfinished map. :/

Everything most MMOs have today came from EQ/EQ2. Most people don't realize that Wow took A lot of inspiration from those games. Mostly because when Blizzard decided to make a MMO they contacted the biggest guild leaders from EQ and asked them what they wanted in a game.

hmm. i thought it was in WAR first

although i do 100% miss my days of exploring in DAoC. there was no reward like a puzzle or anything, just places that you haddent seen, mobs people had not recording killing/loot of. whatever hibernia's SI area was my favorite. i found a dungeon inside of a tree and fought a rat there. it gave me the black plague, a weak desiese (lowers healing by like 35% or something) and DoT that last for 48 hours of playtime or until death. fun times
