Is this server list just because its the open beta or are there that few preorders?

http://tera.enmasse.com/launch-schedule

not many games offer more then 10 at launch, more servers are added later.

if you say "Well WoW had so and so"..

actually WoW had less then 10.

and the number of servers depend on how many people each server can hold.

lets say each of those servers hold 1.5million people, 10 is a nice amount for launch, with more being added later.

How many MMO's have you played, not many offer more then 10 at launch. Well that isn't even close to correct but ok. It's not a huge deal to me. It seems Eme doesn't throw up tons of servers unless needed so It's not always a bad thing.

Serious?

try 10-15k at best.

One of the most notable achievements is the Guinness World Record set on 23 January, 2011, when the peak number of concurrent users reached 91,311. However, the PCCU number has been steadily growing since the record day and is now topping 172,000.

The short answer is, yes, there are "that few" preorders. Although seriously what did you expect? KR has 13 servers, from original of 39 or so I think. JP launched to 10 and merged to 3. I don't see any reason why Tera would perform differently in NA.

And...

lmao... obviously a troll? WoW? Less than 10 servers at launch?

Show me an MMO that houses more than 10-15k people, at one time, without being "full".

The guy just doesn't know what he's talking about. GL running a private AAA mmo game server from your garage that hosts 1k PCU without getting disconnected by your ISP.

WoW had a hand full of servers at launch I'd say no more then 15.

10-15k is a fair guess to how much a server can hold

http://www.wowwiki.com/Realms_list

WoW has about 500 servers so with a player base of lets say 10,000,000 that is 20,000 per server.

but not all servers are high so I mean it could even be as high as say 30,000 but then again you are not going to have that many on at one time I would imagine.

No Mmo publisher will ever come out and say what a pop cap is per server. It would be just one more thing a new Mmo could try to use to top an older one.

I think 10 servers is a good starting point for any Mmo that does not have an IP like Star Wars behind it.

some one already said this but you can always buy new servers but selling ones you don't use is going to hurt

you are talking about games that came after Wow. Remember wow brought in the second wave of Mmo players. Before Wow games were fighting and clawing for 500k players. Even games like FFXI that hit right before would have given the Ceos heart attacks of joy for hitting 1.5 million players

Then you should know you can't compare an instanced game to a persistant world game because server architecture is completely different?
