The questing is just completely awful. The lore of an area is not focused and the story quests are terribly uninteresting. I'd rather all the quests in a region focus around one major arch. I'm level 38, and I am beginning to realize that the entirety of this game is just killing one mob group after another. Where is the variation? Gathering quests? A few escort and teleporting quests? None of it is challenging or visceral besides the BAM quests but then again, I'm just killing with no believable reason. The world is beautiful and the action is wonderful, but the world lacks a soul. The developers lied when they said they were revamping 1-40.
The reviews all point to this major lacking feature. If pvp was present and player-generated pvp content was viable, meaning it had a purpose, less people would feel progression was pointless. I really love TERA, and really want to subscribe for the long-term, but I don't know if I can push myself to 60 with no BGs in the near future and no meaningful progression. I love the art and the combat, but everything else is just so poorly tacked on it makes me feel like this game is a hack and slash one-time purchase game.
The quests and lore need to seriously be reworked. I don't mean rewriting. I mean reprogramming of the entire questing system. Give the npcs chat bubbles and the players options, or make enemy groups invade an outpost once in a while. I'd rather have less, more meaningful quests, than hundreds of paltry ones.
I feel that story is one of the most important part of any RPG, whether players can create it in a sandbox (pvp, politics --> but to be quite frank, the Vanarch system is poor and players can only set taxes/maybe enable pvp in a region nothing to write a Game of Thrones novel about). TERA needs story. Stop writing those stupid short stories and put something wonderful and moving in TERA.
TL;DR
TERA needs better quests/story or more meaningful progression through player-generated PVP (BGs, Guild War incentives) to make going to 60 less monotonous. Please.
ALSO, WHY ARENT THE DEVS COMMUNICATING WHAT IS IN DEVELOPMENT!? WHERE IS OUR ROADMAP? If people know about things to come, they'd be more inclined to stay I'm sure. Half the people don't even know BGs are planned.
