The game launches, says theres a controller connected and when Im in game I have the gamepad overlay on the screen and it resembles a PS3 and says "type 2" at the bottom.

I'd assume "type 1" is the 360 controller but I've found now way at all to switch it. The gamepad works for sure, I use it in FFXIV and verified it in the control panel.

I also know the 360 controller works natively because Ive seen youtube videos of it. So what the hell is going on with me and is anyone else getting this?

It was working fine for me, I'm not too sure what would cause that unless there is a setting to change the "type". Maybe try re-installing the drivers for your controller see if that works.

If you open up the controller option panel, at the top is the selection for Type 1 and Type 2. You are correct that Type 1 is the Xbox controller.

Not sure how you do it through keyboard, but on controller, pressing the "back" button on the Xbox controller opens the needed pannel.

Worked fine for me, I had to give it about a minute to be recognized by the game I guess.

ya I did that

I have a lot of things on my PC including a razer n52te and a logitech G15 keyboard. I went so far as to disconnect the n52TE thinking it was being recognized as a game controller and that didnt work.

I was also just using the native drivers for windows 7 and downloaded the proper drivers for the device and still its a no-go.

i looked through .ini files and Ive seen nowhere to change the controller type nor did I in game. It seems to be a pre-fetched thing that cant be modified and however the game sees your devices is how it loads the game controller settings.

I had no problems with the 360 controller. Mine's wireless too, just turned it on TERA recognized it after a 3 sec delay. Don't know why I didn't think to hit the back button for control schemes. Hopefully they're customizable.

I'm sure there's another way to access that panel other than the "back" button. And yes, you can customize the buttons - I remapped some of mine.

I also get the recognition when the game loads and see the popup window for a few seconds. It just sees it as the wrong controller :(

oh well, I submitted a ticket. I'll use the N52te at release but it would be nice to use the gamepad, no biggy.
