I’m 35 years old. I have a family, two kids and a loving wife. I’m a computer engineer and I make a hell of a living, and own a 3k square foot home. I’m very polite, and get along well with everyone. I do not drink, do not smoke, or do drugs. I am good looking guy, 5’10” 200lbs and workout religiously. I live by the rules. If you every met me on the streets, we would most likely get along, maybe even become friends.

But I have a confession to make...

In game, I’m a bona-fide “Ganker”! I will murder you in a heart beat, without hesitation and highly enjoy it. I will grief you like this to no end… it brings me great pleasure when I know my victim is annoyed and even makes me giggle. I have been like this since the opening of Ultima Online back in 1997.

Are there any other “Gankers” reading these forums? And if so, tell everyone about yourself, a mini Bio perhaps? I am curious as I’m sure others are as well.

Well… I read the forums often, and it seems to me that most peoples generalizations about who it is that’s ganking them are incorrect, at least in my case. So I wanted to see for myself, are all gankers just immature kids, or some older looser type? Not trying to make a connection with gankers and in game characters. I’m just asking for Bio out of pure curiosity.

When there is a perceived official sanctioning of bad/stupid/griefing/evil behavior and they know they can get away with it, people will do it.

Killing of lowbies should NOT be allowed because it's gotten out of hand in a away I'm sure the developers did not intend...that is, high level players now routinely RUINING the experience of lowel level , possibly brand new players.

1 single lvl 60 can ruin the experience of dozens of people. I just saw it myself yesterday.

So En Masee/Bluehole, whoever is in power here WAKE UP.

It's a very poor design choice where a single paying sub could potentially ruin the experience for multiple paying subs. It causes some to quit, some to bad mouth the game and community, and more importantly, LOST REVENUE.

I still don't get it why the people in charge don't get this. They are shooting themselves in the foot financially and don't realize how this one little game mechanic in the long run is costing them money. Probably because they don't have a professional economist consult group on staff, they have no clue of the financial liabilities this game mechanic is costing them.

At the end of the day, this MMO is a BUSINESS and it's run like amateur night.
Wake up En Masse, turn off low level griefing, not for game reasons, but for economic reasons.

Just because you think you guys are sitting on a small war chest of initial sub money, recent Amazon etc sales, you know and I know you are bleeding subs.

It's a win win. People can progress. Griefers will be forced to...OMG...PvP someone their own level and you at the end of the day don't have to deal with the loss in revenue that I GUARANTEE is happening because of high level PKs on lowbies.

Tried it at one point: I just can't get excited about winning a fight I never had a chance of losing. /shrug

World PvP against people my level, on the other hand, is an experience that could only be rivaled by a fictitious occurrence known as "chocolate sex pizza" (at least I THINK it's fictitious...).

While specific generalizations about "all" gankers will not apply to "each" ganker, your own words do fit within the crux of the complaint/argument.

To take pleasure in other people's frustrations or pain which YOU are directly responsible for is not normal. It is abnormal behavior, ungentlemanly and cowardly to say the least. Just because you have kids, a wife, a high paying job and "follow the rules" IRL, does not cleanse you from the moniker of a "looser type". In fact your actions and your own words seal your fate as being one.

I'd also argue that you have some issues brewing beneath the surface that have not (and may not ever) manifest themselves overtly, but do influence other actions in your life on a subconscious level.

Try helping people for a change. You might find that the appreciation you receive from them is more rewarding than grief.

I pray you're not teaching your children (our nation's future) to behave this way...

OP. You should at least acknowledge how the whole is pretty much an ancient copy pasta that has been periodically posted on MMO forums over the years. Trying to pass someone else's work as your own is kinda lame.

Which also implies those statements about family and gainful employment as being yours. .. Yea.
