A simple (and novel) solution to that 'hemline' issue.

Ok I didn't bother reading the entire thing so apologies, but I got the gist of it. First of all, I love TERA's graphics and I love their armor. I'm a female gamer and playing a Castanic (the raciest of all the races) because I love the way they look. So get that dumb idea out of your head that girls prefer to play ugly toons.

Secondly, we need a bit of a lecture here. I don't feel the need to play a gender that doesn't make me happy to avoid possible [filtered]s (nor do I feel the need to play a female toon in a game with modest armor to avoid those people). I will do what I want in game and I'm going to have fun with it. I don't associate with people that act based on how your character looks (that's pretty retarded to be honest). It's really that easy. If you let others dictate what you do than you've already lost. It's a game, I want to have fun.

I think most western games armor styles look like crap. WoW, RIFT, SWTOR, etc. It's a style fine, but when I play fantasy games I want to look good. I'm not concerned with realism or how my fake character in a game would be perceived in real life or anything of the sort. Aion's graphics I enjoy as well as TERA's. I don't understand this concept that a game has to have women covered head to toe in awful designs for it to be considered quality? Personally, when I see art like in Aion and TERA my first reaction is that it's of a much higher quality, not some "cheap, nasty F2P game" as you put it. If this game's art and armor looked like those Western games, I honestly would be less interested in it.

Granted fashion is art so like any other art it's all opinion. But that's not your argument and it should be. "Modesty button"? Is this some massive troll? You keep talking about stereotypes - I think that's your own issue. Most people I know don't think about stereotypes. And your comment about the game's style - "it is what it is"? Seriously? This game's art is amazing. I dunno, I'm going with the this is a massive troll attempt because I find it hard to believe the OP is serious.

Madcat the reason that this is not about discussing Elin is that their armours are not amenable to any kind of quick fix. Without reworking thier armour entirely, they will always either A. be wearing clothing that risks getting this game banned or reclassified to X, or B. look like [filtered].

That is why the thread is about HE and humans. Those armours very easily could have an underskirt added to copies of the current legging armours. Obviously it depends on the armour layering system that has been used for the graphics, but because it is a change to an inner layer that is not intended to change the exterior artwork the design requirement is trivial, and a competent art team could likely have it finished well inside a day. Adding anything with volume, complex shading, new models (Elin clothing) etc is radically more work - this is litreally point to point to point, copy colour, fill with texture B, add trim C, save as alternate set 1A to set 1, next. The coding logic is if checked leggings graphics 1 = 1A, not 1.

Now tell me if the game is not capable of doing those things. Because if they are not, then this game is really going to suck badly and I want to know before my preorder gets billed. Thx.

Adding an option to the game i would nvr be against, but that's the last thing they should worry about with OB comin soon.

I highly doubt this game would get a x rating.....god of war has mini sex game and is M O.o

really christian conservatism.....that shouldnt be a validating point in any argument.

Personally I'm against this post for different reasons.

First, as stated in previous threads about how revealing female clothing is, Western society doesn't care for half naked guys. When guys are being portrayed as being sexy, they are mainly in a suit. HE males shirts seem to show off as much of their chest as their female counterparts

Also, opportunity cost comes into play here. IF they art division spends time going thru all the armors and adds this modesty concept, what are they not designing? What cool armors could my character be wearing, that because of the modesty button being added had to be cut?

If someone is shallow enough to dismiss a product because of a single cultural difference like the way they dress, I don't think I want to be associated with them. Think of how the Middle East thinks of us: our women show their arms, their face, their legs in public! It can be considered the same with the women (and men) of TERA.

It's a fairly unnecessary addition and I'd rather they focus their efforts on more impactful issues.

You would be pretty ignorant to think it is just men who will be perving, woman perve just as much if not more.

Yes, but we get to look at fully armoured guys.

The blatant double standard is setting this game up to be mocked badly if anything ever goes wrong. Don't get me wrong: if you re-read the intro I am not trying to change the artistic style of this game.

Opsie yet more drivel with no facts to back it up. Just personal opinion.

Perfectly acceptable dress. There are some others as well

Yes a male that isn't fully armored. That is plate as well.

This whole thread has to be a troll lol

Well it's only a matter of time before this thread is locked now. Flute is comparing Elin to children and whatnot so... lets lock this as it deserves as it's the same kind of bigotry just to the other side of the fence. Bigotry=bad no matter what side for/against.

L E A R N T O R E A D

It was another poster who did that. And I said it right up front: this is not about Elin. I think Elin look stupid, to be honest, I don't care what they wear because I won't be playing one. Just like I have an issue with the lancer, because lance is a mounted weapon, not a foot melee weapon, yet the combat in Tera is currently all on foot (yes, there are MMOS out there with mounted combat).

Clearly many members of the the community here are more interested in attacking people for having an opinion than they are interested in expressing a view on the actual topic.

To be honest, the impression I am getting is that this will be a game for 12~14 year olds, will get boring quickly for experienced gamers, and will likely end in tears for its backers.

If you think this game is cutting edge, or that the graphics are complex/hard to change, then go look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf26ZhHz6uM . See what CCP are doing with the Carbon engine for their new MMO (which isn't out any time soon, hence why I am looking at playing Tera). There is simply no excuse for not giving players choice, given the state of digital artistic technology. Nor is it wrong for players to ask for options in an MMO: after all, Blizzard have made billions from the simple game design of giving players choices, recently recovering market share based in part simply by giving players better tools to customise the look of their characters.

You can love it or hate it, but Blizzard's investors love it. Guess what, Tera is not a charity, it's a business. Choice is good, empowering customers is good, rampant inaccurate trolling by fanbois is not good. Think about it.

If you wanted to sell your game in the Middle East, you would need to think about it.
This is an adapted Korean game being targetted to the USA market. Guess what, USA is not Korea, and the cutural values are not the same. Nor are the politics.

For those who have not been keeping up with events, go see what The Mittani stirred up in relation to EVE Online. Tera is entering the market in a very interesting time, in terms of USA cultural sensitivity: they need to be very, very careful, because there is blood in the water already from other games.
