there are pro's and con's to having a dps meter.
more pro's if your raiding with a group of friends of guild members , because then the meter becomes
a tool to help the group improve as a whole

If your pugging however then the con's stand out more
-lets face it though people are going to be dumb, come up with silly reasons as to why the group is
wiping or not killing mobs fast enough with or without the meter.

so it would be nice if the dps meter was available, but its not going to gimp players if its not available.

I disagree the pros out weight the cons even in a pug.

If you hit a dps wall either the group is going to disband or the lowest dps is going to get kicked.Since there is no way to measure dps everyone just assumes that to be berserkers and archers.

Not having a meter is going to gimp players who play less than ideal class. This is already happening in ktera on some bosses berserkers get auto kicked even if they are beating the other dps classes. With a dps meter if the weaker classes were winning at least the group will attempt the boss with them or replace the ideal dps class that is not doing enough damage.

Also using idiot pug dps as a reason not to have dps meters is weak argument. If someone links meters after every trash pull tell them the cut the crap, ignore them or kick them for being stupid.

If someone is taking damage on purpose to pad meters tell them to cut the crap or kick them for being stupid.

when i said the cons stand out more- i did not mean that there are more cons then pro's , i meant that u see the cons of having a dps meter more so in pugs.. for instance meter padding, healer padding.People not willing to dps ads or cc adds because that will hurt their overall dps etc etc.
sure that means just kick them, but the fact is that with meters brings that kind of gameplay.
that's a con, does it outshine the pro's? no

as far as archers and berserkers being wailed on for them being "low" dps classes i agree that a meter would be great to be able to show other people that " hey i can keep up just as well as the other dps" - people that have a tight group of friends to raid with or guild members they prob wont experience the need to prove that so much, but they would in pugs.

my thought is:
i like meters, i can tell what im doing wrong to best min/max my skills ,what skills would be more effective if its a heavy movement fight etc etc, but will i be hindered much if i dont have one? no, i can live without one.. so to say that a meter is detrimental to game play is wrong, but to say one is necessary for gameplay is also wrong.

me personally.. i want one, but thats just the type of player i am lol.

People have to learn to differentiate.

There are dps meters and there are dps meters. Some of them work real time inside your game (like recount in WoW), these are the "bad" dps meters which lead to douchebaggery like this http://youtu.be/F4wurXDgYmE .

Some of them work outside the game and don't provide real time data, these are fairly decent, as they cannot be spammed every pull in chat showing off how leet of a dps someone does.

In the end I don't really give a crap if ACT gets to work with Tera or not.

That video was rather amusing, and sadly shows the exact sort of behavior that dps meters and the like allow.

DPS
DRPS (damage received per second)
RPB (revives per battle)
AP (Agro Percentage)
HPS (heals per second)
MPS (mana spent per second)
MUS (Most Used Skill)

Might as well go all out. Hell why not add a top down of the map to show visual hot spots for where you did everything. We can Call Of Duty Elite it out. Anybody care to add on?

Because people can't be elitist a-holes without a DPS meter?
