Advanced Combat Tracker, does it work?

Wow guys, like I mentioned in my initial post, if you're against dps metres for whatever reason, then don't worry about it. This is for individuals like me who want to be able to see my DPS so I can see how I am performing relative to my party members, its MY personal choice, don't like it? No one is forcing you to use it. Looking for constructive feedback from Aion and Rift and hopefully KTera players on whether this damage parser will work in Tera.

@OP

Tera does have a log file but it seems to be stored in a cache and deleted when the game closes. I was unable to find a log file of chats anywhere on my harddrive but I only started looking for it after CBT5 ended.

But yes ACT could be adapted to parse Tera. It doesn't at the moment but I am sure the devs might look into it.

I never checked if ACT worked in Tera. I didn't think there was a way to store the combat log. Is there? I am sort of curious now.

why are people so obsessed with dps anyway? i just care about getting the job done.

DPS meters do have legitimate uses beyond chastising people for mediocre performance. For one, they allow you to "check" the developers. Is that glyph that resets the cooldown of the ability 25% of the time really procing 25% of the time, for example. They also allow people to achieve a deeper and more through understanding of game mechanics. Meters are quite important for theorycrafting. And lastly, they also just help people improve themselves.

It's a shame all the great uses meters have get overshadowed by people using them to be f'ing a-holes.

We already know that ACT works for Tera. There is already an adaptation made for Tera. That beign said, ACT is not an ingame plugin. It works from the logs as a separate program.

No, but you imbeciles will force it onto those of us who don't wish to use it. Why? To make sure we are as 1337 as you and can do X damage in Y seconds. Otherwise we at teh sux. Despite it not really applying in a game like this, I'm sure someone out there will try to make it to if they find a way to make the meter work.

Isn't the combat log in TERA very general? As in "you did x damage" and that's it. It doesn't track what skill you used, it doesn't track heals done, it doesn't track damage taken. Its pretty useless as far as I can tell.

Link to the Tera plugin? Its not on their site or listed as 1 of their supported games.

OMG why are you guys so obssessed on this?

WoW and RIFT really spoiled you. the MMO genre survived for like 10 years without this dreaded tool, and it was only introduced by a 3RD-PARTY ADDON from WoW which many cite as one of the reasons for what happened to that game. Let's keep TERA clean of this absurdity. Please.

If there is a log generated, then ACT will read it np.

I find it strange that people trying to talk negative about ACT are using Rift as an example for people to not use it in the event people try and pull the elitist card saying that they don't do enough dps, well I hate to break it too you, but Rift had enrage timers and if your Raid wasn't doing X amount of dps, guess what, WIPE!!!!! You just wasted 20 peoples time for 3 hours because 75% of your raid couldn't do the required amount of DPS.

Without knowing what high end content for Tera beholds for us, there is almost always something that regulates ones ability to be successful at end game content, mana effciency, gear on the tank which can reflect back to mana effciency from healers prespective, maximizing dps, maximizing postioning and locations when tanking, it is not always so cut and dry and while some people tend to pick it up really quick, others tend to drag people down with them which in turn makes it a terrible and bad experience for everyone else, why? Because they were too casual about it to the point of simply not caring.

If from what we have seen so far of Tera's dungeon content, there is no enrage timers, there is just periods where the bosses themselves become enraged for short periods of time, now this gets me to thinking that gear will be an obvious indication of being able to succesfully complete content in the hard modes and mana consumption and effciency will play a key role in peoples ability to succesfully pull it off coupled with maximizing DPS to be able to help mana users last the distance.

Anyways, yes if there is a combat log, ACT can read it.
