DPS meters are for people who want to improve their game-play.At the moment everyone is just using random skills and hoping for the best.
Yes there are idiots that will stop at nothing to be #1 dps.There are also people out there like me that just want to kill the boss and just use a dps meter as a tool to fix problems.
On some bosses it does matter who is doing the most like in this video for example.

Without a meter what do you do in that situation?I want you or someone against dps meters to give me five good solutions to the problem.
Right now the answer is to just kick the berzerker.But what if the berserker is the better player?What if the berzerker did 45% of the damage to the tree and the slayer was not pulling his weight?At least with a dps meter if you get kicked its because you are not doing enough damage and not based on the assumption that you class is bad.

If Everyone is focused on dodging and not doing enough damage, it will take longer. Don't need a "metre" to tell you that.
DPS meter won't help somebody do more damage. Efficient dodging pattern to get back into a safe position will.
Who is doing the most = Who Cares
Who is doing the least = The Priest or Mystic
These are things that anybody who has eyeballs can tell without that silly tool.
This DPS Meter is so people can stroke E-Peen in game and on forum. This is so the same simpletons can make videos like this:

It promotes number padding, macro'ing, and cheating not task completion. It promotes DPS based dungeon drop prejudice. It has more social cons than pros.
The OP might want it personally for good reasons but is clearly not thinking about how it can be abused. Go figure out how to find the information you need and run it through an excel spread sheet or something. Share it amongst your guild mates. Those variables do NOT need to be thrown in to the game GUI.

This exact question has been posed 3-5 times this thread, and all the anti meter people ignore it.
They don't have an answer. Its clear if you watch the video closely the slayer was the reason they lost. But the berserker is the one getting the blame, and the kick.

i think any kind of third party program that affects the game in anyway should get you IP blocked.

The video shows a group of people playing hard mode level 60 run and wiping. The person who made the video said that Berzerkers and Archers are not wanted in Level 60 content and blames them for the wipe.
I saw them all get wiped at the exact same time while they were all sitting in the exact same area when the boss jumped on their head.
Dps Meter does what for that situation? Why didn't they have a priest dwindling down the trees before the boss started climbing it? I don't know.
Strategy & not getting killed > DPS Meter
All a DPS meter does is take accountability away from somebody who might have be in the wrong strategy wise.
I saw them all get wiped at the exact same time while they were all sitting in the exact same area when the boss jumped on their head.

So everyone who uses Teamspeak, Vent, or Mumble should get banned? How about Fraps and other video recording software?
i think any kind of third party program that affects the game in anyway should get you IP blocked.

You have 10 seconds to destroy the tree or he 1 shots everyone.
The slayer was not attacking the tree until the last 3 or 4 seconds. Yet blame is placed on the berserker, because they have a stigma of being bad burst damage dealers.
A meter would be VERY clear that the berserker did more then his portion of damage to the tree, and the slayer did almost none. (because he was a bad player and did not get there in time.)
Was this a simple mistake on the slayers part? maybe. Should he get kicked? probably not.
