I feel as though, by reading these forums, there isn't much love anymore on the boards and that I am the only one that actually enjoys the game. I have a very strict way of looking at games too! (When it comes to MMOs) Let me break is down for everyone.
1. I make sure it has a good core. If the core game isn't fulfilling and doesn't give me that motivation to be good, it isn't going to last in my eyes.
2. I look at the dedicated fan base. Tera has a lot of L1/L2 players in the community, as well as a good amount of Aion/Final Fantasy XI(And XIV) players. People from other games are also dedicated fans of course, but the point is Tera actually has a good enough dedicated fan base that it shouldn't have problems in the long run.
3. The PvP End game and the PvE end game. Right now both don't have that much to do, but the systems that they do have at the moment actually work for the most part. This goes for not only fun, but gameplay. This does not count towards gear and loot drops in PvE, as those are currently low, but as to the core gameplay in which it is backed by.
The PvP, when combined with the combat system, has huge potential and truthfully will be a huge success once some GvG things change and the Battlegrounds are released. PvP always has a very dedicated community in its own, so as long as the BGs, GvG, and open world PvP is done right, everything should be okay there.
Judging by the dev trackers/reddit AMA, they are working on giving incentive to players to want to go out and GvG and World PvP. No game dev can appeal to everyone instantly, so this "I want this now or I will quit" mentality needs to go. If you don't like the game as is, just level an alt, or take a break and come back when it is all fixed. The point is everything will be fixed eventually, according to the devs, so why not calm down and just play the game for what it currently is.
Now PvE is a different story. The PvE in this game actually works. Are the drop rates low? Yes, but they said without a shadow of a doubt, they are increasing the end game drop rates on bosses and such. The game of course will have its glitched and bugs, but every game in the world has that. They get fixed constantly and the big game breaker bugs never last more than 2 weeks max. PvE is a lot easier to please the community, in my opinion, simply because questing and leveling always revolves around PvE to begin with. Their PvE and combat system is absolutely great, but people are just frustrated that there isn't enough content.
Content in any game is always a problem, because people have different paces. People who play this game constantly and want to be the very best in the game will always complete things faster than the rest. The problem with that is that they are getting their wish. They are become some of the best players, but then running out of things to do. If content is rushed by the devs to release, this goes for any MMO, and it is released before it is ready, the devs will have more complaints and people quitting than they do for not releasing content. Content needs to be done right, so people should just level an alt or just take a minor break from the game, until there is more to play.
Not everyone has completed their gear sets or all of the current content. Please don't ruin it for the rest of us.
4. The community. The community for the most part is actually decent. I know a lot of people will disagree with this, but when playing the beta and the first week of the release (Before people have rushed through the game to do all of the content instantly) the community was actually great.
Trolling exists in all games, as do people who just are plain rude on the forums / LFG chat / Area chat. The only way to fix that is to not do it. Just don't "Feed the trolls" and just stick to talking to the nicer people in the community. The community can't be "Fixed" unless the community actually changes. We are the community, so when someone new joins the game and the forums and all they read is I hate this and I hate that and I hate this person... It makes us look like people who are obsessed with High School drama.
I am not saying "Don't voice your opinions", but do it in a nicer/constructive way. This game does need some fixing and the community can help fix it, but calling devs and players out and saying horrible things to them, doesn't help the community or the devs any. Just think before you type and try and be an adult about it, so the game can be better for everyone.
I know I won't convince everyone with this, plus most people haven't even read this far, but if more people in the community actually were more constructive, the game might be in a better state. Negativity and impatience is a cause of a lot of people quitting. "Oh, my friend said this game is bad, so I am quitting." (Except a lot more cursing involved)
TL;DR Version:
Tera has a great backing and has huge potential to be a great game. Lets not let another great game die because of impatience and immaturity.
Thank you to those who read the entire thing! ^_^
