BAM 'step' damage

Is anyone else finding it fourteen different kinds of obnoxious that, for example, a level 32 crab can deal between four and six thousand damage to a player simply by walking over them? I understand that big monsters are heavy yes, they should deal some damage, but as a melee I find myself not only being sent under the mobs (my combative strike lunges me under them) but being knocked over and then trampled to death by an un-dodgeable move.

We need some kind of cooldown or invuln frame for step damage, or heal-less bam hunting will be all about staying out of melee entirely

In the case of the crab, their sidestep is actually a deliberate mode of attack where they try to trample you, which if you watch them, you can usually tell its coming based on the way they turn to the side before moving.

That metric only works if you've a lancer tanking (As they can stand in one spot and simply block incoming attacks). A warrior tank (or anything else, really) will actually have the BAM on a lazy suzan the entire fight keeping out of that front arc.

Of note: The crab also does about the same damage even when not sidescuttling
