BAMs sell Tera. We need level 11 BAMs...

I need to tell every single person I bring into Tera's beta the same thing: the BAM fights are where the real game begins, but they need to spend a few hours farting around on noob island before they can even try a SAMPLE BAM, one that doesn't really give them the full experience of what a BAM is and why it's so amazing.

We need a mini-basilisk BAM or something that players can start fighting right at 11. Having to reach 15-20 before the game "begins" just doesn't cut it.

I've seen countless players who have been "meh" on Tera up until the point where they fought their first basilisk. Seriously, BAMs are what make this game so awesome and players don't get to experience them until far too late in the game, potentially long after they've given up on Tera.

We either need level 11 BAMs or a "BAM trial mode" you can try right from the main menu.

Let me put it another way: Tera's combat system is like a Ferrari. For the first 17 or so levels, you're forced to drive that Ferrari on dirt roads. Fighting your first basilisk is like finally finding your way to the Autobahn.

IMO, if someone judges a game based on the first 30 minutes to an hour of the game, then they don't even need to be playing the game in the first place.

Good thing you're not BHS's lead designer, then: they'd be out of business in a month with that attitude.

My fiancee wasn't truly sold on the game until she fought her first basilisk. I wasn't sold until I fought MY first basilisk. Several people in this forum have posted the same thing: their first bassie is what showed them just how amazing Tera can be.

How many hours should people need to play before they get a sample of how amazingly fun the game can be? 3? 5? 20?

Before your first basilisk, everything in the game is a bloody pushover, offering minimal challenge and doing NOTHING to demonstrate just how exciting a BAM fight can be (the first boss on the island doesn't even come close to a true BAM).

Why not give people that experience sooner?

I wasn't being as mean as you think I was. I'm telling the truth. You don't judge a book by its cover. Throwing them in sooner would just be.. awkward. You don't exactly have many skills to deal with them until later.

And think about post-launch, about 4 months after. BAMs in the noobie area, but no one around to help that person that just started playing.

What exactly does "BAM" stand for?

Level 11 is out of the newbie area, and all classes, by level 11, have their dodge abilities and more than enough tools to handle a BAM, especially one toned down a bit from a bask.

I think it's fine as is. I hit 20 and was fighting basilisks a couple hours later.

Then according to this logic nobody would be playing these games. Studies showed that most players when trying out a game, especially larger scale games like tera, start to form opinions of the game within the first 30 mins or so. Nobody is going to sit there and play a game for hours hoping that it eventually gets good. You have to grab a players attention right from the start or risk losing them.

When wow reworked azeroth for cata they payed extra attention to revamping the starting areas and quests in order to make them more epic. This is because their own internal studies showed most players only played through the starting areas and made the decision to continue playing or quitting after only a few levels of play.

I am not saying I whether I agree with putting BAMs into lower level zones or not. I am just saying if you think people are not gonna judge a game after a half hour or so of playing then you are out of touch with reality.

tl;dr

Who buys a game for $50 and throws it out in 30 minutes? Think before you post such nonsense.
