anyone else that's played a cash shop game knows exactly what i'm thinking right now. We are all paying a flat subscription fee, a pretty hefty investment of 60$+ to even play the game and now we are being denied the ability to unlock or earn content through our in game play but only by our wallets? How far can a wallet stretch or should it be expected to stretch?
They need to make money - i get it. If people want to fund the game by electing to pay large sums of irl cash rather than earn the prem items through in-game combat and actions that is their prerogative. But that doesn't mean those items should only be able to be purchased with IRL cash.
First of all this is not a rage thread - i haven't even capped yet i only have 2 lev 45's - but don't you think that the prem. content should also be unlockable via in-game achievements or currency?
it starts with cosmetic type premiums... what if they start selling prem. enchantment stones like every single other game. Don't underestimate the power and addiction that is caused by a clever enchantment system. For many people that becomes a gambling-esque addiction or obsession in and of itself.
I really hope that en masse preserves the balance and integrity of the game by being 'careful' what content they make available via irl cash... don't let this turn into fiesta or a gpotato game :D
This is entirely new and interesting.
why you care so much for the vanity shop? don't like it? don't buy it!!
Instant 50 page topic full of nonsense and speculation, here we go!
Tera was the first P2W MMO.
Oh no ... another Cash Shop thread!
Honestly, what is the matter with Paying to Look different?
I bought last months Mystic Piton Sceptor and very happy with the purchase. I've yet to see anyone sporting it. I get stopped by other players all the time asking how can they get that Sceptor? When I tell them, I bought it from TERA Cash Shop last month and it's not available anymore, they're bummed out. The price of the Piton, $9 bucks, and I'm planning on using this until some other cool skin is released (not interested in purchasing this month's "Pink-Heart" Sceptor - Ha!). To be honest, I wouldn't care if I had a glowing Masterworks T13 Sceptor, I'd still skin it with Piton. I purchased Piton so I'm planning on putting Piton to work.
Same goes for the Nightmare Mount. Because my guild is Vanarch and I already have a 280 speed Vanarch mount, don't see the immediate reason to purchase Nightmare. But, if we happen to lose Vanarch and my V-mount is taken away, I'll quickly purchase Nightmare mount. I've been spoiled by the 280-speed mounts. I didn't have the luxury of purchasing TERA Collector's Edition (Retail Box edition) as it was sold out during pre-orders which came with 280-speed Lion Mount or White Mount. So I settled for 240-speed basic mount by purchasing Standard Edition TERA (Retail Box edition) BTW, didn't want to download the Collector's Edition ... to long of a download - 50 gig download. I don't think so!
Pay-to-look different, I have no issues with when it comes to Cash Shops. Pay-to-Win is where I draw the line. Fortunately, EME only sells vanity/fluff items in their Cash Shop, so I don't see what the problem is. It's my money, if I want to buy the "extras" let me do so in peace. If you're against the idea of Cash Shops, don't purchase from them. They're totally optional.
It's quite simple actually:
People think that the coolest designs should be earned "the hard way", through very difficult in-game achievements, so that people may look at them and think "oooohhh that guy has the silver plate of uberness, he's 1337".
Having a cash shop removes that. They can't be the subject of awe they wanted to be, their cool looks meaning they done some hyper-difficult (or time-consuming) task at the game. And they are butt hurt about it. VERY MUCH.
The sentiment that all those threads embody is the following:
"WHAT? so I can't look cooler than Jimmy because he bought uber-cool armor through RMT? I FEEL DOUBLE-CROSSED. Now I can't strut around Velika in my shinies and have people point at me and say I'm awesome. THAT'S BULL-[filtered]! EME is ripping me off!!! good looks should come with bragging rights!!! I WANT MY BRAGGING RIGHTS!!!! EME, FIX THIS!!!!!!!"
i totally support cash shop :)
and no, i dont think CS items would be available for accomplishing in game. People who invest extra money in tera are supposed to have exclusivity.
furthermore, i would say about pay to win, that its totally reasonable that people who can afford the investment have access to better items... why not? real life works like that. oh wait... here comes the "bla bla bla, but its a game"... Actually its a corporation which offers products and services. it doesnt have necessarily to be different than other segments.
of course the ones who cant afford them will say the opposite, since they emphasize their own interests.
thats my point of view.
