For those people that use CBT# specific keys, e.g CBT1 Key, CBT2 Key, etc (not the generalised key from preordering) is it possible to access your characters previously created from the previous CBT periods or must you start a new after each CBT period? Thanks

If you use CBT specific keys, you'll have to create a new character every CBT.
If you pre-order, you're character is retained through all the closed betas!

Last CBT our store was down and an exception was made in that case.
From this point forward, characters will not carry over unless pre-order keys are used.

Would I be able to assume if you started playing with a CB specific beta key, then while that beta was on-going, pre-ordered the game and attached the key to your account you would be able to keep your characters?
I would hazard a guess that they simply nix the accounts that are CB specific right before the next beta weekend starts, so that timeline would vary as to how soon you would have to pre-order before you lost your CB specific characters.
Is this correct or am I just taking wild stabs in the dark? :P

This will be my first Beta (still at work) I just got the Pre-Order Digital Collectors from En Masse and I do not recall ever receiving any keys. I activated my account and downloaded. Am i missing some step?

If you attach a pre-order code to your account after experiencing a CBT, you will be able to carry that character through CBT's.

I think thats fair and awesome. If you aren't satisified before beta ends you can cancel.
5 bucks was sooooooooo ahead of it's time... Look at the other games in closed beta right now where beta keys are selling for as high as 60-100$ here's looking at you blizzard.
