Quick question: Is this possible?
If not, could I theoretically just transfer my character to a different server where I make sure my name is already taken, thereby forcing me to change it?

You probably can but then again you might just be dividing by zero at this point. With all the other random bugs. Who knows might possibly screw things up right now.
