Combat & Movement

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I would like to provide some personal feedback as this is a beta.

I feel that the combat is very clunky. I really like the semi-twitch based system. I believe it brings a nice change and feel to this game. What really bothers me is the stop movement for the basic skills I am using. For example.. when using the basic first skill on the mystic, it requires me to stay in place for a short duration, and then I can move again. It feels very tedious and honestly quite boring. It's such a simple thing, yet it bothers me really bad. I feel like I should be able to strafe and move around while doing this simple animation. I understand that this is a design mechanic, but it seems really boring, and really bothers me.

I really really want to like this game. It has some really great concepts to it. However, for some reason this one small design mechanic is so frustrating to me, that I almost literally fell asleep at the keyboard. Now I've only tested 2 classes which were the sorcerer and the mystic. Both of these classes had this design. Maybe the others do not. It maybe too late in the day to change something like this, but if the actions were more 'free', than I would find this game much more enjoyable. I absolutely understand the need to stay in one place while casting or channeling a spell, but for basic attacks I just don't get it. I would like to get some insight from a developer as to why they chose this, to help me understand.

Thanks,

McRippins

TLDR: The stop movements for basic attacks really bother me, and I was hoping there would be a way to make it more action based.

I know what you mean.
Vindictus was even worse with this. Everything you did had about a whole second of delay before you're able to move again.
I guess it has something to do with realism and balance. Eg. lancers shouldn't be able to swing their lances while strafing so mage types shouldn't either otherwise lancers'll be kited to death everytime.

Well I really only tried the ranger class. While I initially did have problems with the strafe and keep target reticle on mob, I eventually got the hand for it.

I do see it being problematic, but then I say to myself, it wouldn't make sense to be able to cast a 2 second shot while running around.

I'm guessing those that want to 'kite' mobs will have to relearn a few things. It was so much easier in Everquest, but then, we're not playing everquest ;)

Really is just a matter of opinion. I enjoy the system they have in place now, makes it a bit more strategic to me, with penalties for facerolling on your keyboard (typical tab target mechanic!).

You can cancel any animation by using movement skills if you make a mistake, and there are also glyphs as higher level that can increase/allow you to move or charge an ability while in motion if that helps.

Here's the problem:
I prefer this system (animation lock) to a free movement, skill spam system. So as the above poster says, it's clearly a matter of opinion as there are people who prefer one gameplay style over the other.

Here's the reality:
The game was designed with animation lock in mind as a means of balance and skill control.

Here's your demand (as well as other people's):
Animation system should be changed to a skill spam system or you'll leave the game.

Here's my demand (as well as other people's);
Animation system should be kept as it is or I'll leave the game.

Hint: You aren't the target audience. And if they decide to change the system, I'll stop being the target audience.

Every hit counts, time your attacks and blocks, don't think of it like an FPS

We can see you will be raging the game is to hard since clearly you will be dying to much. You not meant to stand there and get hit really unless your a tank since you can take the blows.

@op I have no issues with the game combat/ movement. This isnt a FPS or APB.... its basically like Monster Hunters meet L2 kinda. There a reason why you have to stop and cast skills.... If not then ranger, sorcs, priest and mystics would be over powered
