I do agree graphics in TERA is gorgeous and the combat system is "action combat" which is great. However if you want to experience "true action combat" there has been only one game that is worthy of the praise and thats Vindictus. However, before i get flamed for this. Vindictus isn't your traditional MMO either.


I disagree that Vindictus is worthy of any praise, as I hated their combat system, but to each their own. I don't understand the "There can be only one" mentality here though with Vindictus. They are both action combat games. One is an MMORPG (TERA) and the other is basically a co-op lobby. No reason a person can't like both. I just prefer the type of game that TERA is, and I like it's combat.

Yep seems like it has all the same crap everything else has the only difference is the graphics and playstyles and in this game has no target system and you fight mobs differently because of it.

Sorry to burst every one's bubble, but can you leave the fan boy goggles at the door, wash your eyes and then try to formulate an answer. Comparison wise you may be strangely surprised to learn that TERA is in fact a part of the "pack" rather then a cut above. TERA is a compilation of good idea's from different games, so it's not introducing any new and revolutionary to the market. But let's get to answering your question how does it compare to the rest.

For graphics: If you played AION, TERA's appearance is not far off. It is more polished and updated, however the style is very similar. When you look at an armor you will note that it looks like it was made by magic, rather then crafted. Some times it will feel like you are in "story book weaver".

For Combat: You may think they did something special here, but am afraid not.. If you have played any MMO you know that depending what you fight you need to move not to get hit. TERA improved on that concept, so you can avoid all attacks be it block or evade. And despite all the hot air about never using TAB, you will use it more than you can imaging as that's a key you can bound to a skill.

For Game Play: TERA is the easy mode, special education version of AION, enough said.

And so on and so forth. TERA is a good game i am not bashing it, that is not my intention. With that in mind, you should not view it as the king of game's it's not. In the last 3 years very few game's have actually managed to brake the 1 year mark and not been reduced to "whoring" them self for subscriptions. Some didn't even hit 6 months (looking at you SWTOR).

TL:DR, TERA is not above the rest as it is yet to prove it can float, success in Korea =/= success in NA/EU

Tera suceeded in korea? In its first month it topped aion, then quickly fell when everyone hit endgame to see nothing, not to mention Koreans complained about the lack of grind (which is the same lack we have).

Then tera improved, people returned, but it didn't have the bang as it did when it launched. In short it launched too early.

I was comparing combat system, if you read my post carefully i did say before i get flamed i acknowledged that vindictus is not your typical MMO and probably a not good comparison. If you are looking for an argument you've come to the wrong place.

Vindicuts has a very unique combat which is not based on 1buttton skill and very fast paste and you are correct its not for everyone that is use to the one button skill.

I am enjoying Tera far more than any other MMO and I have played a lot of them. The graphics/art are phenomenal, nothing else comes close in my opinion. The action combat is a lot of fun and it still has the depth of traditional MMOs. It does have a lot of the typical kill X creatures and FedEx missions but the action combat, fast pace of moving to new locations & variety of creatures make it feel less grindy.

For crying out loud, the biggest failure in MMO history has graphics that blow TERA's anime stile out of the water. FFXIV's graphics and music in comparison, are about 100 levels above what TERA can ever do. Looking at FFXIV leather armor you can see where it was stitches, the thread it was stitched with and the needle hole's. The metal armor you can seen how it was put together, and shaped and molded. All of TERA armor looks like it was put together with spit, gum and magic dust.
