You were warned that it was long. If you don't want to read it, go to another thread. If you feel led to post before reading, don't... someone else probably already made the same assumption as you or have trolled using the same thought process already.

Introduction:
First, let me get this out of the way. If you came in thinking "Oh another WoW newb wanting a WoW feature." Just stop reading and leave. No need to comment. Parsing damage has been around since early 2000 when Nicodemus created a script for EQ that reads combat damage lines and displayed DoS statistics for various players and groups. Like most things in MMO-gaming, WoW stream lined these things and brought them into the mainstream. But that doesn't mean that I am wanting to bring a "WoW like feature" into the game. I know how people seem to panic over anything that reminds them of WoW in any shape or form. I could talk endlessly about how WoW was good for the industry as a whole but toxic for the players, but that is another thread in a different forum.
Now that we got all the WoW-BS that will most likely follow out of way...
Part 1: Damage Meters Are Important
Damage Meters are a great way to monitor how you and how other players are doing. What players do with that information can either be helpful, or annoying as hell. We will get into that in another section.* But there are a few things to note:
-They allow you to improve your efficiency.
-They show you what works and what doesn't.
-Through a large enough sample size, you can note balance issues between classes.
-You can spot problem players.*
It is a great tool to manage your performance. In late game hard modes(which are incessantly difficult in K-tera, unless you are all preforming your best, you have a good chance of failing.
Part 2: Why People Hate Damage Meters
Damage meters have always a topic of controversy in MMORPGs, especially during the initial release when things are uncertain, and players are all vying for different aspects of the game to be elaborated on. The complaints are wide and varied but rest assure, 90% of them are unjustified.
-Many players complain that all DPS meters are good for, is allowing players to have bragging rights.
*False, look at Part 1. It is amazing tool. But all tools can be misused.
-Players complain that others will remove them from groups because their dps isn't "leet" enough.
*False: If you under preform, they will find another reason to remove you regardless. DPS meters just give them a reason on paper to go through with it. People don't like removing those who are preforming well, and while you may get trolled and kicked by a jerk, you probably didn't want to group with them anyway.
Part 3: The Probable Truth
This is the section where I upset people. I will be honest here. I am guessing that a majority of people who are raising a holy war against DPS Meters are in one of two categories.
1. They had a really bad experience in a raid/group in a previous MMO.
* They most likely had an easy time leveling up doing what they were doing as they leveled, however, once to entered a raid, what they were doing wasn't enough to get them by. A disgruntle and jaded raid leader probably dealt with them in either an overly harsh or overly zealous manner when he displayed their poor performance to everyone else who had a good laugh.
2. They want to remain ignorant.
* There are a few reasons for this. Either they are scared of under preforming and don't want others to see how they are doing. Or they just want to keep doing what they enjoy and do not want to make any attempt to improve their gameplay, which means that DPS meters can create and issue for them.
The sad part is, if the people in section 1 had a better experience with DPS meters, they would probably be more open to them. But after such a terrible incident(or hearing stories of incidents) they reject any thing that has to do with them. As for section 2, they see DPS meters as a big scary unknown or annoyance. They think it adds a level of depth to the game they don't want to deal with.
But most of all, people who are made to feel like a bad*** throughout their leveling experience, don't like being told that they are doing poorly. This causes negative emotions and associations.
Closing: Why does Tera need DPS Meters:
Simply put: Archers and Berserkers.
There is an incredible amount of controversy over these two classes not being viable at end game. The word is that due to their charge attacks, they are greatly reduced in effectiveness with high mobile end game bosses, and a various other myriad of reasons why no one wants them in groups.
Archers have received a significant buff and berserkers are due for one as well. But the stigma is still strong, and people in ktera frequently kick people out of their groups because they don't want to carry a zerker or archer through.
DPS meters will allow people to see the truth behind issues like this. There wouldn't be all this ambiguity and complaining about classes or screaming at each other if we had a tool that would sort this mess out.
Right now Archers are roughly 4% of people playing the game. That is an incredibly low number for such an iconic class in an MMO. Don't you think that we deserve a tool that can disprove all these stigmas and preconceptions?

You're still going to have elitist jerks comparing epeens no matter where you go. Now instead of crappy Slayer getting kicked because the DPS meter shows his terribad damage... Mr. Top Damage Archer gets the boot because "Archers Suck". Sounds great doesn't it?
