i think i'm being a realist. in 20 years of gaming, experience has taught me to question everything and that nothing is as it seems to be, be it singleplayer games or mmos.

the industry has changed very very much and i honestly can't say it's for the better.

i'd rather be skeptical and then be pleasantly surprised than be optimistic and then be disappointed.

edit: oh and btw. i have nothing to do with arenanet, never played GW1 and i do not intend to play GW2 "as of now" :)

I hate to come to his aid and all, but he was referring to gaming in general, and not just MMOs. Games, for console and PC, have been around for more than 20 years.

Yes, cause 20 years of gaming totally means he played MMO's for 20 years... Learn 2 Read?

In case ya didn't know Gaming started in the 70's so it more then supports his post.

I do have to say... I'm a bit shocked they will start with this right away. Because there are no factions, finding parties should be a lot easier than other MMO's due to an increase in players. Because of this I think I can assume there will be instant-ports to the dungeons. Thus my (personal) fears are confirmed...

While I am not one for typically getting involved in negative discussions, I too must reiterate my disappointment. While I can't find the post, I remember reading a blue post stating that they wanted an OWPvP system that was alive and healthy. This is one way to make sure that doesn't happen.

Yes, I understand that one reason people don't go into the world is because there is no incentive. But at least when you are on your own server and have to head to the dungeon on your own (even with the teleports that get you near the dungeon) there is a -chance- for PvP and community interaction. I played WoW for several years with some friends and on my final character me and a friend decided we were literally only going to sit in Silvermoon once we hit the minimum level for DF queues, and see how fast/easy it was to level. We hit level 70 shortly thereafter -without leaving the city-, got bored and quit in disbelief at the simplicity of it all.

While cross-server dungeons shouldn't exclusively get blamed for everything I discussed, there is an absolute correlation. As it stands I'm wondering what server type I should roll on now that the system will be incorporated regardless. Will I live? Yes, absolutely. Am I happy with it? I'd be lying if I said yes.
