If I see anything but cosmetics, I cancel my subscription on the spot, simple as that and probably 50% of the playerbase would do the same.
Just don't add the mechanic to begin with and there's not a concern for the future with what will be added or how the game will be affected. There Is NO reason what-so-ever that even Vanity items can't be obtained INGAME, with events ect.
^ This covers It. ALL items should be available INGAME, you should not have to purchase them through a cashshop. People should stand firm and not just give up If It's just a Vanity item. No reason as to why you shouldn't be able to get these items ingame.
Except that Cash shop games make infinitely more money than any other model. Notice how most currently popular games (MOBA's like Dota2/LoL and most non-WoW mmo's) are going to free to play with cash shop. If you don't like it, I wish you good luck on finding the one out of one million games that isn't going to have a cash shop with vanity items unavailable in normal play.
I hate to break this to you, but the penny pinching player on a budget is never going to be the target demographic over the casual older gamer who doesn't mind dropping 10 bucks just for a skin. Thinking that ANY company and not just Bluehole will cater to that kind of player is fairly delusional thinking.

Microtransactions are indeed inevitable. Soon enough only the smallest niche games will be non-microtransaction.
I can't believe the people that are demanding a definitive and binding answer to the cash shop thing. If one of my customers told me they wouldn't pay for a service today unless I made a promise about how I run my business 2 years from now, I'd tell them to find someone else to work for them.

Wow that's such a bad example. Also the game comes out In a month.

Unless you believe there will be a cash shop in the NA version of TERA at launch, then you're missing the point. If you are unwilling to buy a game and subscription next month for something EME may or may not do in a year or two, then you are simply a fickle customer. A company that needs business badly enough to cater to that sort of demand is a company that is already about to fail.

That's fine. You'd only lose $120 per customer (assuming $60 for the game and $60 for the six month sub) which is certainly easy to offset what with all the awesome media hype that Tera is surely getting. Just look at all the press coverage and glowing reviews that Tera is getting. It's not being overshadowed by Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 betas at all!
If your business was niche and the competition was fierce, you would be doing all you can to hold onto your customers.
Wow, that sounds like a frightening consumeristic dystopia, Rambler. People might even be able to see just how scared I am, if not for these [filtered]in' glasses ImperialPanda promised me.

I'm guessing it's because I've worked for EA. I can never have a positive outlook on game development again.

I personally don't think the lack of a long-term promise on the whims of some forum posters will be what kills TERA unless TERA is already doomed. Unfortunately, I don't have the numbers that show how many subscriptions are at risk due to a silly thing, nor do I have the numbers of how many other subscribers there will be and how many subscribers EME will need to keep the game floating for a year or two.
Do you?
If you don't, only time will tell us. If you give me your e-mail address, I'd be glad to contact you 6 months to a year from now and tell you whether or not you were right or wrong. If you can take a break from Diablo 3 or Guild Wars 2 long enough to check your e-mail.
