Enchanting Success Rate

So I just got myself a +9, got my congrats on LFG, etc etc.

But then some guy told me that if I was using golds as sacrifice to enchant, I was wasting my time because whites work just as well from 8 to 9. This is news to me, as I had always believed golds were the only reasonable way to get from 8 to 9.

If white gear really does have the same success rate, then I could probably get +9 on all my gear right now. But I don't want to bother trying because refined alkahests are expensive.

He told me "check the forums, that's what they're all saying", so here I am. Is the whole "higher rarity items better chance of enchant success" a lie that everyone has come to believe, or is he just giving me nonsense?

during the enchanting exploit many people +9'd their gear with whites. I don't think the success rate is the same as it's been stated otherwise officially, however, the difference could be not that much? I was thinking, like, if it was 12% with golds to +9, what if it was 10% with blues. It would still be cheaper to use blues.

The gold gear isn't really the problem. Its the refined alkahest. It costs 250 gold per attempt excluding the cost of the gear you're sacrificing.

If white was like 5% and gold was like 12%, I'd actually rather roll golds.

"during the enchanting exploit many people +9'd their gear with whites."

Not sure what this means but I'm assuming this means it doesn't work anymore.

for a day people were able to +9 gear with normal alkahests so it was feasible to use whites even with a lower success rate.

I could easily get to 6 on whites.

7 to 9 though costs a ton thanks to refined alkahest. I'm not getting a definitive answer here though. I'll continue to use golds like I have I guess.

Yeah, it will definitely take a while to get any close to accurate rates on successes. Since its expensive to use Refined Alkahest, there isn't any testing for this kind of stuff.

For now, just play it safe with whatever you agree with

using golds should give you the highest success rate. We do not know what the hard coded success rates are. So your answer is, until success rates are actually known for sure, use golds.

One of the tests done with sample of 100+ items on of the servers in EU sort of showed that what the system is /really/ looking into - is not color, but gearscore (which generally coincides with the rarity, but not always).

Not sure myself, but worth keeping in mind for next attempts. FYI
