That's a rude move. It's smart. But kinda rude. It's like false hopes all over again. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE combat and action packed games. It just feels like there was a lot of potential for other stuff to be implemented. Guess it is also my fault for always hoping for too long. Guess I am one of those people who have a hard time moving on.


mmmhm. I come back every time for the combat system. It's so clean (until ping spikes kick in). Or most recently in the new dungeons, the server lags.

doesn't hurt that the avatars are cute af too

They won't. Because it's not profitable. They prefer create new OP classes for Elin or female races only.


actually they are going to sell flying mounts soon

I don't think it's like they did it that way on purpose initially; the original design team probably did think of it that way when designing it, at least to some degree. But obviously things didn't go as planned; the transition to F2P happened much sooner than they expected, and it wasn't an easy transition for them (by their own admission). I've little doubt that the size of their live services team and on-going dev team shrunk dramatically from original plans. So basically, they ended up with a game much larger than they had a team to handle. And as much as people want to be like "if you build it, they will come", I suspect they felt that was part of what got them in the mess in the first place. The legal stuff going on at the time probably didn't help. Most of the original design team is long gone by now.

I guess you could say this isn't the TERA they wanted to make, it's the TERA they had to learn to settle for. (Of course, and we as players by proxy.)

i recall i turned myself into a horse in mabinogi and then ran together with my horse mount and we both kicked trees to gather apples for the daily holy water quests; the only way to allow others to ride you though it was to play a giant who could carry humans on their shoulder

^^^ Man... sad flying has invisible walls too.. I wanna go see baldera :( Heck only certain parts of the continent are flyable. Still cool tho. Especially since everyone is getting a free 30 day Pegasus mount.

Anyways. I never tried the RP server cuz I really feel like there is too much of a limit going on here. Heck even with chats they censor the wrong stuff. Adding open world stuff will benefit the RP community... I think? like... fisherman role?

I am ok with our dungeons for the most part.

I've been playing this game since beta, and only once has BHS added a new feature that was fun, relaxing, and non-competitive. It was the ability to walk.

Oh man when I first played during official release, I remembered entering the first Dungeon(in Island of Dawn), and instead of actually teleporting you walked slowly as go into an arcane pulse looking thing. And sometimes it would bug and I would do the whole quest "walking" while in running speed.

I wish there was a little more to do aside from combat. I've taken into weaponcrafting and alchemy and selling large packs of Alchemy stuff. But I wouldn't expect a whole lot from a F2P MMO.

Granted, combat is very stilted lately with all the outlaw Brawlers running around ganking you when you have your camera turned.

I do enjoy gathering tho. I feel calm when gathering for some reason(apart from doing alchemy). It's also the ONLY reason why I would ever put up my radar xD

Also for open world pvp and ganking. I think those who successfully defended themselves/killed the ganker should be awarded with something. At least an achievement?

TERA definitely needs more side content. As someone said previously, the beautiful open world is practically designed with side content in mind. Just look at the empty outskirts around the major cities. Surely they weren't planned to stay empty forever. Unfortunately, the departed original devs took any ideas they had with them. I heard at one point a housing system was being worked on, but as we can see, that never happened. The most incentive we have to go out and explore the world is hunting for blue boxes during events. It's a shame how much potential is being wasted.

Nostalgia tangent incoming:

All of the side content was what I loved about Runescape back when I played it in 2006. Fishing, mining, farming, housing, crafting, etc. all with their own skills to level up; it was great. The graphics were meh, but the amount of content (and the best questing system I've seen in an MMO so far) made it negligible. I also liked the lack of emphasis on "end game". Very little, if any, content relied on the player being max level, though having a higher level obviously gave an advantage combat-wise. My favorite part was the lack of predefined classes. You could be a mage, archer, swordsman, etc. all on the same character, but you had to train each skill individually. There was pretty much a never-ending supply of things to do. It is pretty much the opposite for TERA right now. The graphics and combat are great, but there's basically nothing else to do.

Of course, they tried to make Runsecape more like other MMOs around 2008-ish and completely ruined it. They added a cash shop, locked more content behind premium membership while simultaneously raising the price, and somehow made the graphics 100x worse, among other things. I logged in a couple months ago, logged out, and uninstalled immediately. RIP Runescape.
