Do you think Tera has what it takes to remain a pay to play service, or do you think they will conform to the Free to Play market less than a year after launch?
Seems like these days more and more MMORPGs are going to the F2P market and making more money by doing so!
I'm confident it will do fine.
I smell a gw2 fanatic on the loose O_O
Also, I dont think "the market" is going free to play, gw2 is just coming out. If anything NcSoft is going towards free to play, which is how it should have been anyways. They're not exactly known for making good mmos.
Game is far too polished to be free. Have you played the beta? Why would a game with so much potential go free2play? I am sorry, it is just that I have played MANY free MMOs (Even LOTRO), and none of them feel close to the lasting power of Tera. I am not saying it is a WoW killer or anything, but it has that polish that is next to WoW in production value. That means it will last a long time. It may have a different playerbase, but it is just too good to go free. Bluehole would be complete idiots. And if this game fails, I will have no hope for the gaming community anymore.
And seriously...have you tried the Beta? I have an extra key if you want to try it out.
Considering it's released in multiple markets and is doing fine, not to mention that BH created Enmass for the sole purpose of releasing the game in the NA market. I highly doubt that the game will go F2P anytime soon, if ever.
Outlaw - there was a thread last night of three people looking for beta keys. I have a feeling he'll take it just to troll people in-game. I can dig the thread up for you if you want :3
Hopefully gw2 nuts will disperse once NcSoft cares enough to bother making a forum for them.
making more money is relative to how much they were making before.
They are "making more" enough to keep the game alive...
I haven't seen any major P2P MMO go F2P within the first year...
This has nothing to do with GW2 crap.....Rift even went free to play to level 20 and probably will expand on that, DC UNIVERSE, and many other recent games went free to play because they make more money doing so.
I prefer a P2P game. Too many F2P games have the game set up so bad, making you want or need to buy from their Item Mall.
Plus with chronoscrolls, if players do buy them. they will earn a bit more money. Chrono's will be $15 and worth 1 month of gametime. If people buy those, they will earn more money than if players just buy a year subscription.
Right now, money to keep the game P2P doesn't seem like an issue. Once people get a taste of it in the OBT, the word will get around faster, making more players interested.
Only issue right now is if the server doesn't blow up on release.
