Fall Producer Letter

Minea Profile Options #1

Fall is fast approaching, and it’s been four months since TERA launched. I always think things will slow down post launch, but I’m always wrong—we’ve been working nonstop since launch day. Continuous improvements, game updates every two weeks, battlegrounds, new instances, in-game events, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work have kept the TERA team on their toes. A few quick stats to whet the appetite of you data-hungry people:

• You’ve created more than 2.5 million characters since OBT.
: Most popular class: warrior (18.1 percent of total characters created)
: Next closest: sorcerer (14.9 percent)
: Most popular race: castanic (22.7 percent)
: Next closest: human (22.5 percent)

• You’ve formed more than 14,000 guilds.
: More than 1,000 vanarch candidates to date.

• The Island of Dawn has claimed 363,111 player deaths. (Rest in peace, newbies.)

• A kumas demon has claimed the top player-killing title, slaughtering more than a quarter-million souls and only dying 63,141 times. What a jerk.

Fall is a season of changes, and the world of TERA is going to be busy for the next few months. First on the list of change is our server status. We’ve got several metrics to measure server activity—and many of ours are below the mark. We’ve also been listening to the issues our players have been having in the game: lack of resources, lack of groups, extended wait times for dungeons, and so on. We feel that the best way to address these problems is to increase the number of simultaneous players on our servers. To that end, we will be merging servers on September 18, 2012.

Where some might look on this as a negative, I feel differently. By combining our servers, we facilitate a more unified community and give players a more full, alive world where finding groups, locating rare items (for lower prices!), and getting into dungeons quickly are the norm. Most importantly, combined servers will allow us to run more regular, player-focused events where we get to interact with our players. You can find a link to our detailed FAQ regarding this process at the bottom of this letter. It will be updated further as we get more information.

The fall also brings with it a host of other changes, all aimed at providing a kick-[filtered] experience for our players. By the end of September, you’ll be able to participate in our player-focused events and interact with TERA team members. September leads to October—and our Halloween events. Other plans include a battlegrounds tournament in November and a holiday in-game event during the winter months to help us end 2012 with a bang. Along with this focus on player engagement and events, we’ll also be having several content updates throughout the fall.

We’ve got a lot of excitement in store for our players in the coming months, all with the goal to continuously improve the TERA game experience. Grow along with us!

Not all of the details on the character names have been finalized but we know how everyone feels about their names and that is one of the reasons it hasn't been finalized yet. We will share more information as they become available.

Valley of Titans should remain its own entity. The other three servers should be merged into one.

Way to screw the pooch here. Nexus lag is already super bad on Jagged Coast.

Please, Keep Dragonfall and Blightwood as they are and merge the rest of the pve servers. They are already doing fine.

Question, With the super servers, what happens to the cross server instance matcher, battlegrounds? Will guild member caps be raised from 300? People who like me, per-ordered Tera, we were not given all the items we were promised such as engravements in the compass, a cloth map not a laminate paper one etc. Why are we not being given our name priority? The validity of the price I payed for the game at launch has clearly not held up in the 4 months since launch. For the items being deleted off other toons and such, will we be given the gold equivalent to them?

What about the draw distance bugs? UI performance? With the mergers these things are going to quickly become forefront once nexus hits. Nexus will be even more of a cpu slaughter house than it currently is.

The merger brings good things and bad, cheaper TB prices, the lack of cross server instance matching would put more people in the open world I'd imagine. I have many questions Enmasse. Many questions.

Nexus is going to be ridiculous. Valley of Titans still crashes and lags me like all hell in Zulfikar Fortress Nexuses.

Also there's the point of preorder names. We preordered to get our names reserved, and it hasn't even been a year before we're going to lose the names we paid for? We're loyal customers, who have still played, survived through the nexus lag the pvp imbalance the rng rape, and now we are going to lose our names because we have to work on Tuesday?

I have mixed feelings about this change. Going from six to two PvE servers and four to one PvP seems too much of a downgrade. Isn't PvP where most people are anyways? I can imagine new players getting ganked outside of Lumbertown so easily now.

I would have preferred something like 2 PvE, 1 RP-PvE, and 2 PvP.

The reason I joined Frost Reach over Dragonfall is because of the small community. And now that important MMO aspect is broken, I'm more likely to shut off global/LFG troll chat forever.

I also hope that we will get more channels once these servers merged. Having one or two channels trying to do quests might get annoying and crowded.

But I suppose on the positive side, I know someone on a different server that I can probably play a few dungeons with him for once, and finding groups will become much easier. Not to mention prices on broker might become more flexible with a variety of items on sale. But yeah, mixed feelings on this news, but I'll wait until September 18th to see how things go from there.

So, does this mean we can expect a game update on the 5th of this month? That would be 2 weeks from the QoAPt2 Update. Crossing fingers for nexus schedule, work orders, Berzerker buffs & Shandra Manaya tweaks (giving us the option of NM or HM Manaya's Core).

So..Nexus runs will be absolutely 1 FPS events? Considering all the people already going to these across the servers.

Merging all the pve servers to 1 and all the pvp serversto 1 will just water down the FPS even more during these times:/ Hopefully the Nexus schedule changes spreads the players enough.

Please, if possible, at least make it after 5pm before allowing people to log on and claim names. Tuesday is a school day, not to mention a work day; a ton of people will have classes or work, and it's unfair to deny them names simply because they didn't have the opportunity at all. Not everyone can simply take a day off for the sole reason of having a chance to claim their name.
