I have no issues with my 7200 rpm hdd.

Have you tried turning off hyperthreading?

Also from what I've read AMD + Win 7 makes a bad pair as the OS doesn't take advantage of the CPU features smartly.

Since I'm in the sad situation of having made the last post of the previous page, doomed to go unread, anyone new to page 3 please read page 2 wherein I tell you to buy a SSD.

I'm just going to leave this here
http://serverfault.com/questions/23621/any-benefit-or-detriment-from-removing-a-pagefile-on-an-8gb-ram-machine

I'm not going to argue what should or should not be true about the way the game performs, I'm just telling you what happened when I did what I did and maybe it will help others.

I take it back, apparently I had just set my page file to 800MB for crash dumps.

You have no idea how much that 7200 drive is holding you back.

Whatever you read was bogus..

Windows 7
WD Black 1 TB
E8600 @ 3.5 Ghz
ASUS P5Q
8 GB of RAM
ATI 5850

Tera set to preset 6 or max.
1920x1200 resolution
ATI video driver 12.4
All driver settings set to default or application controlled

60 FPS on the character screen
40-50 FPS in open world questing
20-30 FPS in busy towns

I changed out the 5850 for a 7870 OC card and:

80 FPS on the character screen
45-55 FPS in open world questing
20-30 FPS in busy towns

I bought an intel 520 series SSD and put the game on that. Obviously this didn't affect frame-rate, but I was hoping it would reduce draw in and the hesitations I get when running into a busy part of a big city sometimes. It did not help draw it, and it did not help the hesitations I get. It did reduce loading screens time about about 25%; So not really worth the money. This lack of improvement is likely a CPU and platform limitation

From the changes I've made, one can conclude that both a fast CPU and GPU are needed to maintain high and stable frame-rates.

How are you seeing your FPS'? Is there a command in-game? Or are these external programs?

I think most people are using FRAPS. I don't think the game has a frame rate counter, although it would be nice if it did.

What are you talking about? You know I've been messing around with computers since the early 90s and I've NEVER come across issues with a standard hard drive when it comes to speed. This and all my games run flawlessly with the bottleneck coming from my gpu and cpu. I'm not the one with problems am I? And I'm using older less powerful technology than others hmm?
