Look, the decision was made to protect their legal derrières. They can't officially come out and tell you this, but the last thing either Frogster or EME needs is a swarm of angry mothers taking them to court when they discover that TERA features 'little girls in panties'.

You can throw lore at angry mothers all you want, or try to explain the culture differences between NA/EU and Asia, but you might as well be shouting at a brick wall. It's not going to make any difference.

Censoring the Elin keeps away the bad press that is just waiting to ruin this game. Sorry, but you're just going to have to deal with it.

Just like the age old Violence in Video games made my son/daughter violent in real life. He viewed murder okay in GTA so He went out an murdered and became violent in real life. "He thought elins were cute so he went out raped 12 year olds in real life." Makes perfect sense yo

I suggest you watch yourself. You are being extremely offensive. Elins are a fantasy race and if you CHOSE to see them as children then it's no fault of anyone else. I would probably be up in arms too, if I had a panties fetish. I understand. Unfortunately for those who do, cultural nuances keep this from going mainstream.


Remove panties from the equation, what if it wasnt armor they had moral issues with, what if it was Baraka?

What if they removed Baraka for some weird personal issues.

What if they had some weird problem with horses. And they removed mounts from the game.

Sure its illogical, but you cant see past panties and are clouding the issue. It has NOTHING to do with panties.

Frogster doesn't necessarily affect us (NA players) but BHS develops for both Frogster and En Masse.


Let me clarify something.

Frogster is a German-run company that operates to license games in Europe. it does so through its own interests, and is not beholden to any one game developer. As such they are licensed by Bluehole Studios to run TERA directly to the EU. They are given some control over elements of the game, and unfortunately the reasons for some of the changes they made have translated across to En Mass Entertainment.

En Masse Entertainment is a copy created by Bluehole Studios and run by American gamers and developers, who have been given a LOT of freedom to control the game, but they are still beholden to Bluehole Studios and executive decisions they make. EME is a direct subsidiary of BHS, while Frogster is not.

Much of the changes that Frogster has done they have come under fire for, but while the Elin modelling is considered very serious (as a form of censorship) it is in line with Germany's obscenity laws, which are very severe and consider actions and marketing taken by even user-created content. More interesting, but no less serious, was the influence of this censorship on the appearance of blood in games licensed in Germany, as well as the user-created icons represented Guild emblems. This means no penises, no swastika, etc., but it also can mean a larger range of things that can be deemed (without any seeming oversight or appeal) "obscene."

We, in America, may call this molly-coddling, but we are no better.

Korea has much looser ideas on how to depict the human body, and have been very good in this game for depicting sexually appealing male forms for those that like that sort of thing.

It is not strictly Frogster's fault this censorship occurs. They are better faulted for their terrible customer service and response capability, server handling, and timeliness.

And if a court ruled in favor of these mothers, is the day we truly have lossed our freedom. Nobody is forcing their children to play the game, so if they don't like it their children don't need to play it, and htey themselves don't have to look at it either. If they are that ignorant to not understand the lore and the fantasy and that the elin are indeed not children they have not right to complain to begin with.

Also bad press isn't always a bad thing, its been shown time and time again, when the media start painting a negative picture of a game/movie and try telling you its wrong, the sales/popularity jumps.

You can agree with their logic behind the changes, butthat does not change the fact they are changing aspects of the game based purely off their personal desires.
This not their game. They are a publisher. They should not be pushing their personal views on the developers under any circumstances.

It's really more of a safety precaution i'd gander. Unfortunately there are people out there who do see this race as children, and having them dressed in a certain revealing way would promote certain desires and very unsavory actions. I am uncertain as to the age you must be to play Tera, however I'd imagine it's at least 13+. I doubt that will stop younger players from playing, and even so, 13-16 is still a very vulnerable age.

A young girl (or boy..?) playing that race, wandering around in a virtual world dressed the way they do is like giving a pedo a free pass to look at exactly what they like to see. Like I said before, it's unfortunate but there are people who enjoy this type of character style for unsavory reasons, not just beacuse they are 'adorable' or 'cute'.

If said person decided to engage in conversation with this Elin player, especially on an RP server, it could get very uncomfortable for that player, who's pure intent was to just play a game, with the race they chose.

So, OP, when you say:

The fictinal children are real people behind the character, and many will be real children who are vulnerable and naive. There are sick, sick people out there that target these young kids, ESPECIALLY in a game where they are easy targets. It's much easier to harass someone in a game, behind a keyboard and monitor, then it is in public. Especially with visual stimulation.

There is no need for child-like races to be running around in thongs or short panties. They can still be adorable without the lack of clothing.

And applying a few modifications to their undergarments makes them any less cute, right? Then why do people keep remaking these threads? Because they think EME can modify the game to whatever they want and cause a scene about it or, because they really want their little girls to look revealing?

Just deal with it, deal with the changes EME applies to the damn game and [filtered] play. There's a tons more things people can complain about that actually MATTER, but all you people seem to want is pantsu.
