Stating that packet loss is almost always an ISP/Modem issue when you are running through a wireless connection and some sort of wireless access point shows a general lack of knowledge of networking.

The fact is you see significantly more packetloss through wireless. And the moment that the wireless antenna or signal in general begins to get any interference you're going to start seeing major issues w/ packet loss and connectivity generally.

My packet loss usually has to do with my DNS mucking up since its so insanely sporadic so it always varies, because my ISP is not required by law to have the 99% Uptime equipment in their connection offices for example, I think they gimped out with makeshift DNS servers especially since I upgraded to their fastest speeds Ive noticed it moreso.

to OP; Look at her wifi settings & check aggression levels & the likes make sure theyre not wildly different from yours because they can be overpowering her wireless to the point of it causing issues (Like what I wrote about when I ranted to chama)

Louise you can use Google's dns servers, or depend on where you live, i be glad to provide you with a list of other option for decent dns servers.

Allso, this is something different, are you on DSL. i see you said you upgraded to their fastest speeds?

Google DNS cuts my speeds clear in half from 40 to 20. & I dont get as much from speed boost. Its not an issue anymore after I tweaked with the cabling myself around the house & general settings within the modem/router. My ISP owns a direct connection to the Net exchange point in Tampa (~80 sum miles away) so its faster then having to be bounced around even more. Lets try fix OPs problem first.

No. I hate DSL & everything todo with D-Slams in general. Im using Cable, 40/5 I experience around 100/10 during "turbo boost" (Usually 10~15 minutes when im downloading at max speed for over 3 hours)

im jealous much.. DSL here, i had a choice between the [filtered]tiest Fiber provider on the planet the world have ever seen, or DSL.. :P Theres no cable in the area where i live :(((

It rather odd that your DNS cuts speed in half, i wonder what kind of WEBCACHE your ISP have going and why they cant figure out to use it better.. :(

Ok to return to the OPs problem.
Packetloss, Overheating, other malfunction hardware, / malfunctioning software pick whatever, we gave suggestion on all the topics pretty much :)

I dont even know why they retain DSL anymore with Cable or even fiber options. Maybe because it was so expensive to install D-slams in the Connection offices in the first place...

I have a wierd feeling its because of path, its the only ISP to offer this kind of speed and the only ISP that has a direct connection unlike Comcast, Earthlink, ATT, Verizon, etc. No longer resolve things in their servers & bam, issues....

1.) Verify drivers are up to date for Wireless card, video cards, gpu, cpu, motherboard, OS... everything.

2.) Check if the graphics cards are over heating

3.) Turn off your PC (shut off power supply) and only run your GFs PC to see if your interrupting her signal

4.) Try to setup a wired connection, buy a short cat 5 and just setup the PC next to the router. Doesn't have to be pretty just see if it fixes anything

5.) If you think it's the SLI, try removing one card and the bridge

That's a good place to start and shouldn't take too much time to do... their are other suggestions that would be helpful too.

Dont take this as a offence, but in my expereince, the network infrastructure in USA is utterly junk in 80% of the time.
With old outdated equipment, weird routes bounching back and forth as a yoyo, and a feeling that they are useing copper connections between the routers and not fiber.

My development is Fiber as are a lot of newer more upscaled areas. But most development areas do use copper as its still a feasable option for most people & the wirings already inlayed. Inter-CO is all Fiber networking though. Were I am its a Huge internet hub, with two exchange points in the state a lot is happening here internet backbone wise, infact I can choose any ISP in the U.S asides from COX & Time Warner the way it is....:/ so its much much better structure then say for somebody in Kentucky, or tennessee or anywhere in rural America, but yeah it does seem wonky sometimes depending what other hosts you get into.
