There is no universal answer. The answer is whichever method you are more comfortable and/or with. You'll have to find out for yourself.

Hmm There must be someone who has tested both the key and mouse vs. the gamepad type controller on this game and has an opinion on which one is best for combat of mobs and other players.

There is, and I have. The answers you have been given here are the correct answers. There is no universal better control type. Better just depends on what the individual is better with. I am better with a keyboard. I have beaten and been beaten by people using both control types.

No idea why I'm bothering to write this out though, it's not like you're listening.
