RNG to get a drop, RNG to enchant said drop, RNG hoping for crystals, RNG hoping for fodder to even try the RNG enchant pyramid.

Does not make for a fun, compelling or lasting game experience.

LOL someone's never played diablo.

rng for unique gear
rng on stat rolls for unique gear/runewords
rng for runes
rng for important stats in pvp like deadly strike, open wounds, etc.
rng rng rng, shut up.

That doesn't make for a good game...that makes for a good casino.

thats why D2 is considered one of the greatest PC, if not all console types, game of all time?
thats why D3 is the fastest selling PC game of all time?

hurrhurr, logic where?

Actually, D3 is having problems. Blizzard just had a press release about how the game lacks long term viability and is dropping players like flies. Basically, they sold a bajillion conpies and people got bored after a week.

Nice try, though.

one man's opinion on lack of replayability does not change the fact it's popular as hell.
log onto D2, and see just how wrong his opinion is. people like going to baal over and over and min maxing. people liked the no rules pvp, people like the game in general enough that it doesnt matter if its short.

Way to comment on something you didn't bother reading. That wasn't my opinion, it was a link to Blizzard admitting that the random loot generation system was outdated and performed below expectations.

Just because something was awesome in 1999 (Diablo 2) doesn't mean it's what players expect in 2012.

Thundercat, you seem to be suggesting that agressive use of a RNG makes good games. You are ignoring all the other gameplay elements that those games have and, more importantly, HOW those RNG are implemented.

Under your assumption, 'Just add Random Number Generator to get an Instant Awesome Game!'.

and you obviously failed to grasp my point.

point is, it's in all games, it doesn't hurt their replayability or success, and is infact a superior system to the drawn out guarenteed upgrade through drops from a BAM, or collect X amount of things, or kill x amount of things, or use x amount of said skill.

monotonous time sinks are far worse than RNG.

So...I failed to grasp your point by grasping your point EXACTLY?

Allow me to clarify. I said:

"Under your assumption, 'Just add Random Number Generator to get an Instant Awesome Game!'."

Then you said:

"it doesn't hurt their replayability or success, and is in fact A SUPERIOR system to the drawn out guarentee (...) ", emphasis mine.

You also fail miserably to say WHY it is superior. But technicalities!

time sinks are boring and stupid. plain and simple. it's not hard, challenging, or rewarding. go look up FFXI's trial of the magians system for end game weapons, it's stupid.

You still fail to explain why it is superior. Unless 'It's boring and stupid because I say so!' counts as an explanation to you.

I wonder, how is a definite goal (like 'Kill 1000 demonsheep to get the Sword of Awesome') more of a time sink than a Random Number Generator (like '0.001% per demonsheep killed to get the Sword of Awesome')? In the first case you KNOW that after you reach the goal you get the Sword of Awesome. On the second case, you KNOW that after 1000 you MIGHT get the Sword of Awesome. Except you might not. Thanks to how probability works, a 0.001% chance of getting the Sword means 1000 dead demonsheep on avereage, but it in no way means you will get it after that point. You could very well need to kill 1250. Or 4000. Or you might get terribly unlucky and never get it.
In other words: Random Number Generator ARE TIME SINKS. So they are, by your logic, boring and stupid. We should be on the same team!

Hey guy,

I was at 57 total fails (this does include blues) 37 gold, 20 blue before I got my Tier 12 weapon to 9. You know what? I play 2 hours tops daily, maybe 6 hours on the weekend. I go out, farm a little, get a drop and immediately stick it in to the enchanting slot machine. This means I carry around 200 refined alkahast.

I was worth everyone bit of it. Bottom line is, if you dont like it, gtfo or stfu, I really hate to say it but the "westernization" is a bunch of crying little babies.

I played one of the first korean games call MU. You could enchant ur gear up to 15. If you failed anything from 10 and higher, you completely lose the item. 7 to 9 it goes to 0. This is how they marketed the game, you were fully aware of this with 5 CBT, and an open, simply these games weed out the scrubs who want the easy ride.

Its simple guy, WOW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> hf!
