I'll begin by saying, I like TERA and I want to like TERA. I want to play for as long as BHS can continue to be an independent company. I want to play long enough to experience the BGs and at some point, the SvS content. However, it is getting harder and harder to get myself to log in.
ENCHANTING
The enchanting first and foremost, is infuriating. I truly wish BHS/EME had kept losing a point on enchant failures simply to keep the servers in check. This game was not meant for every PvE-oriented person to get all +9 weapon and gear. But now that lucky players can get an ultimate advantage against unlucky players, which is something that happens on an hourly basis on active servers, it makes it an extremely frustrating experience. Had EME decided not to listen to the people complaining, there would be a far fewer amount of extraordinarily geared players and the rest of the server wouldn't feel the need to catch up to stay relevant.
This isn't even speaking of the heavily exploited enchanting bug that EME just recently "fixed" and did nothing to punish the offenders.
PvP
With the exception of people just PvPing to PvP, there is no incentive to do anything PvP related. This is news to no one at this point I'm sure but that doesn't mean that it isn't a glaring issue. GvG can't be considered content either because it simply is not. It was a makeshift feature implemented in hopes that it would distract players long enough for them to further develop the content they advertised years ago. Not to mention it is nothing more than a glorified deathmatch with a 24 hour time limit. Can you really even consider that war? I don't.
Leading into the game, one of my biggest worries was "what is there to GvG over?" Why should we do it, what is the incentive for ourselves and our opponents? There are no keeps, no camps, and most disappointing of all, no meaningful WORLD BOSSES. All EME does is talk about BAM this, BAM that but where are your BAMs that make people want to come out and fight over? They do not exist. Give people a reason to fight and they will fight. You so far have given them none.
POLITICS
This is another feature in the game that just confuses me. Why is this here? Seriously, why is politics in the game aside from being a means to advertise your game as being "different"? This game has literally nothing that supports such a system. You can lower taxes and open up vendors ... and that is it. Vanarchs and their guilds benefit from having a large surplus of money and faster mounts. Joy.
Politics don't encourage PvP, they don't encourage PvE, they don't strength community and they can be exploited just as easily as most things in this game. All it is is a vulgar display of numbers and popularity. Zerg guilds leading to zerg alliances completely dominating the voting polls. What a surprise to everyone I'm sure when they see the 3 largest guilds running for office in 3 different continents while everyone watches on from a distance.
PvE
Seeing this is the 99% focus on TERA, I can honestly say the PvE is nothing different from what I've seen in past games. Large health pools with easily visible attack tells makes for very repetitive and boring farming rituals. Hard modes is the same thing but they hit harder. Do I expect more? No. Am i disappointed that this is all I am going to be doing until EME gives us some information regarding the PvP content? Yes.
Now I'm not going to say that TERA is a bad game or that I'm unsubbing, because I'm not. Not yet at least. This is another game where I love my character but I'm dissatisfied by the game. It happened to me in DAoC, Warhammer, WoW, Aion and now TERA. TERA by far being the worst case as I love my class and I love playing it, there is just nothing to do but flag on random people and PvE.
I can say with utmost confidence, of all the MMOs I've played in my years, TERA is without question the most devoid of content at endgame. Warhammer had scenarios and a plethora of OWPvP options, SWTOR had battlegrounds and Ilum, AoC had FFA-PvP galore, Aion had Dredgion and fortresses, WoW had OWPvP outside of popular zones and dungeons (NO SAFEZONES). What does TERA have? Fane of Kaprima? 24 hour safezone hugging contests? Politics that give zerg guild leaders the ability to store money in their gbank? Please tell me if I'm forgetting something.
I can also say that I'm the last remaining guild member of my guild that was originally 50 people. Everyone has either quit from boredom, taking a break until BGs or some other notable feature comes out, or gone forever in the world of Diablo 3. I'm sure there are more of you that can relate with me than those of you who can't. Almost every guild on my server has been hit by the D3 or inactivity bomb and it isn't because they are crybaby whiners who rushed to 60. I'm talking about normal people with families, careers, classes they attend.
I waited a long time for TERA. I hoped all the negativity I read previous to release was people being impatient that the game had been delayed. But now presently all that negativity is very real. I don't want this game to go by the wayside like every other game I've played since WoW. I would love to play this game for another 6 months or more but I'm really beginning to have my doubts.
TL;DR
- enchanting is a broken system that caters far too much to luck and leaves players frustrated.
- PvP in the game is a joke and it's sad they released the game with nothing promoting PvP in the slightest.
- Politics caters to largest guild with largest alliance to automatic victory with no exceptions. It also does nothing to promote any kind of activity within the server.
- PvE is boring but that is the only viable option endgame players have.
