The majority of my server (Celestial Hills) has decided that LFG chat, being the only global channel available, is acceptable as a general chat channel.
This morning, a GM appeared and begun sending channel messages, as well as individual pop-up warnings, about using the LFG channel for something other than actual LFG messages.
Considering that this is the only global channel and considering that you have a functional LFG system in place, you have two choices:
1. Tell the GMs to piss off
2. Enable a global CHAT channel, and we'll CHAT there.
He pays money for the game to enjoy himself with other people. Seeing how it is something that is on all servers (The LFG trolling) what makes you think the players don't deserve a channel to BS in?
What makes you think the trolling will stop when they have more channels to possibly troll in? You have a lot of faith in a community that already displays its competency in trying to understand the basic principle of a channel designated to looking for groups.
I am very glad that they did that on Celestial hills, which i also play on. It is extremely annoying to look for a group in lfg and then have your message drowned out by inane babbling that only 5 people care about and are discussing. Want to ramble on about useless [filtered]? go to isle of dawn, sit there, and chat in area chat, or even arcadia. Otherwise let players use the LFG chat channel for its intended function.
Also, and I know it pains many of you (especially on PvP servers; I've seen you ;D ) to imagine this, the trolling level on CH is pretty low. Those of us who were online and chatting earlier were just having a discussion, it wasn't herp derp "MoP is gonna kill this game lawlz!!!"
For some constructive feedback:
1. Rename the global channel from LFG to GLOBAL
2. Implement a number of overlapping channel brackets, i.e. 1-10, 5-15, 20-25, etc. Each player will be auto removed from any channel they no longer qualify for, and from level 5-45, they're in 2 channels at a time. These channels can be used for LFG, or whatever.
What you DON'T do:
Poorly implement and/or change a feature of the game (why does a level 20 care that a level 50 needs a group?) and then penalize players who enjoy using it in a different manner than you imagined.
Friend of mine at first got a 24 hour silence, was not able to talk in guild, party or any chat channels at all... then later a 2 day game suspension for arguing with one of these GM's trying to filter the LFG channel.
It's pointless, trying to stop people from talking about everything in that channel. As soon as he left it was just back to the same way it was.
Fix the problem, don't just be power hungry fools to a select few who happen to be on and don't agree with what you say.
