Guilds - What's missing from a GM perspective.

Alright - So I'm leading No Matter The Cost on Dragonfall with 294ish members, and there's trouble down the road if the guild system does not get changed, below is my list of requirements NEEDED, for a guild to stay and not crack.

1. Allowing your officers to kick people - We had some troublemakers in our guild - and having the guildmaster as the only person who can remove people from the guild - IS NOT A GOOD THING. Some people sleep, some people work, the GM can't be online 24/7 - This work must be deligated to trusted officers!

2. More power to the people I want in power - As it stands right now, ranks are purely a cosmetical thing, they hold no power. All a GM can do is allow people to recruit, access the GB, and write the MotD. Ranks need to hold a sense of power, instead of being all meshed up in eacher. A ranking system like: Recruit -> Grunt -> Recruiter -> (Insert random name here). I know people will say that it's stuff I can do myself - But without the ranks being put up in specific orders, it doesn't make much sense.

3. Guild Bank securities...like locking withdrawals from certain tabs, locking views from certain tabs, and only giving access to those tabs to certain ranks within the guild.

I know my guild for one would like to be able to keep Oranges and some of the other crafting runes in the bank, but only allow Officers to be able to pull them from the bank to give to members who request them. As it stands, either everyone can just grab, or no one can. We need to be able to specify what the parameters are on each tab of the guild bank.

4. Appointed ranks need to be able to extend guild level as well - GM isn't always present, and the guild can loose all their standing due to vacation, internet outage or what have you - A rank with power to extend the Guild Level or Upgrade the guild.

5. (Optional) Also I would suggest guild titles for specific ranks, so that outside players can distinguish the ranks of members in the guild that way.

6. I would also like to see more information added about when players were last online/logged in. Most guilds wind up with people that join and then are never heard from again and it would be very helpful to be able to tell when a character was last logged in.

7. The guild needs a "guild note" tab or something, where any officer can post information about VoiP servers, and websites and ruleset for the guild and what have you.

8. u.... uuuhh... Okay so I'm blanking right now - But I'll update this one as I come up with more - or if other people have more to add to it - I'll keep an eye out.

I agree with just about everything you mentioned. Our guild does not have a traditional power scheme, we have 5 leaders all with equal power, and we need to just pass leader around when we want to do certain things. There needs to be a lot of options that you can assign to ranks. for instance: Change member ranks, allow withdrawal of only specific bank tabs, declare wars, forfeit wars, change the guild ad, kick members, change the guild logo, change the guild title, up the guild rank, etc., ect.

other things:
MotD needs to be reworked. Currently it has a really low character limit, and if you go over it, it doesn't tell you, it just doesn't save. This is so frustrating.

We need another tab where we can write a lot about the guild. Currently the only thing you have is the MotD, where you can fit a single url. It's therefore required to have a guild site or tell every new member the same info about your guild. Another tab where you could write paragraphs about your guild, add your voip server address, say what guilds you're allied with, and whatever else you need would be such an improvement.

On that note, we also need guild alliances. Maybe balance alliances by making each alliance max out at 500 or 750 or 1000 total members across all guilds in the alliance, that way you don't have to worry about all the big guilds on the server joining together to make an indomitable alliance, and it would also let many small guilds band together to overthrow a bigger army. Currently the only options in GvG are be a bigger zerg or be a nonfactor.

294ish members.....with that many you're bound to run into more then just a FEW trouble makes....

Other than that statement, I agree with all of these things stated. As well I would like to add something to the list...

I know my guild for one would like to be able to keep Oranges and some of the other crafting runes in the bank, but only allow Officers to be able to pull them from the bank to give to members who request them. Guild leader needs to be able to assign ranks that have actual power.
A pvp cordinator rank who can declare and decline GVGs.
Requiring gm for that is just silly.
mini vanarch privledges so that certain officers can control the zone npcs and pvp.
things of this nature that do not require a GM to be logged on 24/7 which will never happen.

Honestly, I think the GM would need to be there for that. Otherwise, you get an officer who(not to say is bad or anything) is just having a bad day and decides to throw a Guild War out there for no reason, and just makes it bad on everyone else. Again, not saying it's common practice, but I have seen something like this done.

This would be a cool, but unfortunately ONLY the GM is the actual Vanarch...the guild is just like the royal court to the Vanarch.

I don't know about you guys, but I had sooooooo much trouble writing a guild message of the day, repeatedly it would ignore what I write and revert to the old message that I had trouble writing. Also the character limit is too little.

Obviously there's the security matters for the guild bank.

Also I would suggest guild titles for specific ranks, so that outside players can distinguish the ranks of members in the guild that way.

I don't know about this one, I'm just an officer, but I didn't hear my GM say anything about this. So I wouldn't know.

This would be kind of a cool option. Though not needed, still pretty cool.
