Head Start change.

Like a lot of people, I haven't received the email containing info about the 'buddy codes' that are to be offered during Head Start. I instead heard it from a friend of mine, whose friend had gotten the email. This twice removed gossip line made me skeptical about the truth of it. It seemed silly to me that the company would offer free time during a head start that people had paid to have access too as a perk for pre-ordering the game, after all.

So I asked Customer Service if the change was in fact happening, and they confirmed it.

Let me just say right here that I'm not at all against the idea of offering the friend codes. In fact, I think it's a good idea for creating more press for the game. My issue with it is the timing.

I am of the opinion that the codes should have been active as of launch date, rather than during a Head Start that was stated to be only for people who had pre-ordered. I feel a bit deceived by this change, and I was confused when I saw no official mention of it. (If there is one, please do feel free to link it.. I did look, but I saw nothing.)

I honestly don't mind fighting all the other people who paid the way I did for this perk for names on my server. What I mind is fighting all of them plus each person's three friends who didn't pay. It seems unfair to me, and completely flies in the face of a stated perk of pre-ordering.

I'm just curious what other people's opinions are on the matter. I'll totally understand if I'm alone in feeling miffed about this, but I thought I'd put it out there.

The codes aren't going to add a huge influx of players. There will be some people that give their codes away, some people that actually have 3 friends that will use them, and there there will be the majority that use 1 or none.

It's probably a last-minute idea they had. Just be glad that you can invite and play with your friends from day 1 instead of 3 days later when everyone is 60.

Yeah . . .too be honest I felt the same way. They list a bunch of cool extra stuff you get for pre-ordering and what not. Then they go and start taking out some of that extra stuff and make it available for anyone really.

At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if the white regal lion mount will be obtainable from a vendor by anyone. . .or from an achievement in-game :/

I understand where you're coming from and partially agree with you. It's a little odd, but it doesn't bother me too much, especially with the game's channel system. Also, if you played during open beta you're already ahead of that curve, unless people who did open beta but did not preorder are able to use these keys and continue their open beta toons, then I may take more issue with it as well.

As far as I'm concerned, though, anything that gives more people a chance to try the game out is a good thing. I'm hoping for a healthy and lasting population.

As long as they aren't changing content, I won't complain about having more people to play with or have more people try Tera and make it successful.

I think it would bother me less if they had informed us. No, that's not true. I'd still be annoyed that I paid for something when I could have just piggybacked with a friend's code. ;)

All my friends also pre-ordered, as a side note.. which admittedly adds to my frustration. We all wanted to be in the head start together, so we ponied up the cash. Now we find out that we didn't need to and could have in fact just made eight characters for free by piggybacking with the few that were ordering the game regardless because they had been in early closed betas.

That's sort of the issue.

I don't mind it at all. Bring in more people who are still on the fence - raises the chance for a few more purchases before launch while people can still get their hands on the preorder in-game goodies.

More sales + possibility of more subs = more cash to produce content and make the game better :)

I'm ok with that.

If you were in the OBT, then you already have a very large head start over those who are just going to be starting out on the 28th.

I would imagine that those people from open beta who have not ordered indeed can do exactly that. All they need to do is obtain a code and those are being offered like candy.

But as I said.. I don't take issue with the idea of the free codes. I take issue with them being utilized during head start that was paid for by pre-order folks and listed as a perk for doing so.
