I'm with you Alytheia.
Anyone who tries to DPS as a Priest is doing it wrong...
Here's 3 good reasons:

1. Your damage is pathetic.
Admittedly, Priests have some good burst damage. It's still not worth the trouble when facing a boss with a billion health. To DPS as a priest is high risk low reward. It's not worth it.

2. You need to conserve Mana.
Mana spent on DPS'ing could be the reason why you don't have any left to heal you dying teammate 2 seconds later. Nice going.

3. You need to be quick and keep yourself alive.
The difference between speed in and out of combat is terribly significant. Priests are damn squishy and going into combat slows you down making you an easy target. You need to keep yourself alive before you can keep your team alive.

This, out of all the games I've played. The only time I've Dpsed as a Healer in heroics/raids/endgame; Is when all my Dps are Dead or I'm last alive and the boss has 2% hp left.
Sure, as a priest I can regenerate Mana quickly but I'll stick to being out of Combat speed so I can dodge the boss and stay near my tank. Unlike most have mentioned, healers running to the dps. I only throw a heal to people under 50-75%, mostly just my lock-on.

To me, I shouldn't be dpsing unless I have crappy dps in the party or if everyone is topped off and not taking any damage.

I think that before more people continue to make themselves look like complete fools, they try reading up on some of the priest/mystic threads in the classes forum to find out how the class (and aggro in TERA) actually works!

Calling them fools is a bit wrong, that implies they're intentionally being wrong for attention which also implies they are intellegent. /burn!

Going back to the original point of this post: as a healer I start to panic for the split second the music stops because I am worried that the monster/boss has evaded out and run back to start. I have had this happen to me a few times with BAM's.

Also as a healer the boss/BAM's life bar isn't always on your screen because you aren't dpsing it...so when there is no music it is really hard to tell how far the fight has come. Granted not a big deal to throw out a tiny bit of dps now and then but it is a slight feature that is annoying and could help make a healers life easier in having it be there.

But there are some advantages of being out of combat... such as mounting and moving towards a different direction if needed depending on scenario...

Not sure how they would be able to do this, since you have to be put into combat in order to get the boss music. I guess, they would just have to make it so that if ANYONE in your group is in combat with something, you get the music, maybe?

As I understand, healers generally stay out of combat for the movement speed, just in case. Also, since we're busy, you know, doing our healy-things, or buffing/dropping balls, we get out of combat relatively quickly.

Target Boss/BAM and just press Q and click, will lock the HP on your screen.

Isn't basic attacking a couple of times in between heals beneficial to maintaining low aggro?

Yes... it is. So...it's actually wise to not just sit back and heal, especially if you are a priest. I haven't played healers since OBT but I doubt they changed this (unless healing hold less aggro and heals do not count as crits, but judging from today's runs, I don't think so).
