Here's how to "readd" mischief engines...

Add an NPC to cities that will do the same thing as mischief engines.

That way, people can still use them, but they won't be taking up drops and inventory space for those who don't want them.

Win/win.

Hah.

I was trying to figure out who on earth couldn't read (misspelled) an Engine of Mischief. =D

Not a bad idea. Though you could've been a little clearer with the topic.

Except many players like to play with these while sitting around a campfire and recovering. They were an optional form of entertainment to pass the time.

If you didn't like them, you could just sell them (possibly even to a player shop that was buying them!), making inventory space concerns pretty trivial. We have lots of inventory space in Tera and (unlike many other games) mobs here don't drop vendor-trash loot.

It is completely possible for these boxes to continue to drop from mobs without interfering with the drop chances of any other item. Removing the boxes was unnecessary to achieve this goal. I doubt it even was the goal, but rather some happy side effect they made a point of announcing in order to get players more excited about the removal of this system. In reality there were other ways to achieve this which don't require removing the boxes.

Opened the topic just because of the confusion regarding readd. Should have typed it "Re-Add" instead.

I think the problem, and I'm going off of assumptions regarding the boxes, is that they're more inclined to fail than succeed. It's like a casino: the house always wins, even if there are a few lucky ones that come out ahead, the house still makes more in the long run. The odds of a the boxes, or an NPC if it were implemented, handing out more than one puts in is likely to be less than 49% chance of success. If it were any higher, than it would lead to overproduction of crafting materials in the game, meaning essentially free item generation.

But who am I to stop others from gambling. They can get lucky, and that's all they want. I'd agree to this sort of NPC in the game, but I'd never bother with it unless it was tied to an achievement or something like it was already (6 successes in a row or something I think it was).

I know what you mean. Gambling's a fun way to pass the time, but it's not an effective gathering method. I could see using it on slightly rare materials if you needed them on the spot, but personally i'd rather see some gambling minigames with gold or gear as the prize. Also, not having Pazaak is one of the reasons I stopped playing SWTOR.

Better idea.

Tera lottery. There is an npc and every so often a lottery event comes up. Top prizes are really rare items and hats and cash prizes. Common prizes include engines and common dyes.

This also works with other contests that are a good idea to implement, such as dueling contests, treasure hunts, or holiday events.

I am concerned with why EME is wasting time removing Mischief Engines which have a purpose on the game and not removing the random drop Grenades.

Mischief Engines can be sold, can be used to play your odds, give you something to do around camp fires.

Grenades have no sell value, their damage is so low your dps will drop if you use one, are less fun than fireworks.

Granted Im not attached to the them all that much but why remove an item that has a point and leave in one that does nothing but take up inventory space? Engines are a cool idea, Grenades are dumb.
