Later crafting recipes, dropped or otherwise, have ridiculous requirements for Titan runes. I can understand the large requirements for the more easily obtained materials and that good equipment should have somewhat difficult-to-fulfill requirements, but to craft this level 45 Shadruned Glaive I just got the pattern for, for instance, I need 125 Archrunes of Titan. This is not at all feasible, not only considering the quality of the weapon, but also considering the time it would take to gather all those runes.
First, let's say that I did take the time to grind out all those BAMs. I would have to ensure that, for Archrunes, I was killing level 40-50 BAMs at around the same level due to the drop system giving severely reduced drops for those not within 5 or so levels of the monster. That means I have to get a party to kill them in a reasonable amount of time, since soloing would take an even longer time if it was even possible to do so, and a party significantly reduces the chance that I'll end up with any given Archrune drops. Even if people are willing to just give them to me, which is highly unlikely, it would take a several hours for even a party of 5 to farm 125 of them, and I doubt many people have so much patience to keep killing the same BAMs over and over again for so long. TERA is a great game because, unlike other MMOs, it doesn't require extensive, tedious grinding. As it is a true action combat MMO, the appeal of the game is to constantly face new challenges and enviornments, not stagnate on one level or area like this.
Even if they did choose to stay in one area and farm Archrunes, by the time that one person had 125 of them, the entire party would be severely over-leveled for whatever zone they were in, considering how much EXP BAMs give. What's more, if I somehow mustered the patience and time to solo so many BAMs, as a single person getting all the EXP meant for a party I would probably have to move on to higher level BAMs before I got all 125 runes due to the aforementioned drop system. I can't go back when I am a much higher level to expedite soloing either, since the BAMs just wouldn't drop the runes. Not that I’d want to anyway since by then I’d certainly have replaced the axe.
Now let’s assume I decided to buy the runes from other players. As I’m writing this at 12:02am on May 4th, there are a total of 56 Archrunes of Titan on the Frost Reach server’s Trade Broker. Note that this is abnormal; during the day, there’s likely to be far fewer runes. These range from 3 to 7 gold each. Assuming I bought all 125 at 3 gold each, that’s 375 gold. That’s a ridiculous amount of gold for a level 45 axe. On the Trade Broker right now is a level 44 Bonebreaker axe, which is significantly better than this Shadruned Glaive in every way, for 30 gold. That same amount buys me 10 Archrunes, which is a fraction of what I'd need to craft the glaive. So given the choice between spending 375 gold or numerous hours farming and getting a mediocre axe at 45, I could instead sell all my runes, or just not buy them in the first place, and buy this superior 30 gold axe a level earlier. Do you see the issue here? And the recipe for the level 50 Weighty Shadowaxe requires 219 Archrunes of Titan. That’s 657 gold-worth of runes, and by the time I can use that, I have access to Keyrunes of Titan-based equipment anyway, which is much better.
As it stands, it is exponentially more expensive to craft equipment than to just buy similar items. There is literally no point to crafting right now, unless one’s point was to waste time and money on equipment that is easily replaceable within a few levels. These amounts need to be reviewed and lowered significantly. Please look into this and patch it as quickly as possible. I would like to at least craft something both useful and worthwhile before I hit max level, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Dude i am 110% with you, i am a crafter, i crafter Armor, Weapons, and Alchemy. In short i would say this, crafting any gold items is not only not financially feasible, but pointless and a waste of time and money. As you said, the amount of Titan Runes needed to craft the gold stuff is way to many.
I have come to the understanding that crafting high level armor and weapons (gold stuff) is pointless. You could just buy gold armor and weapons from the broker and save more money. As you said, the cost of crafting, and more specifially obtaining or purchasing the runes is to high when you can just purchase regular gold gear.
In this area i would say that the crafting system is broken, obtaining or purchasing titan runes shouldnt cost you 3 x a weapon or a peace of armor thats superior to what you are trying to craft. That makes no sense....
I've all but given up on high level crafting, your better off just purchasing from the broker.
+1 I totally agree with everything here about crafting being crazy.
As a L60 Slayer on Freeholds I have no option but to level my crafting since the best gear you can get is via crafting at this level and not from Boss drops. The L60 gear you craft is alot better then anythign you'll ever get from a boss, and note that top tier dungeons seldom give any sort of armor or weaposn since its aimed at making you craft stuff at L60.
This means that in order to level I'd need to either buy hundreds of Titan runes on the AH (Which would require more money then I have or could ever imagine having, and this is coming from someone with 5k Gold) or I have to find L55+ BAMS and fight them solo. I could of course do it in a 5-man group but then you have 5 people vying for the runes and it would take many weeks to get enough runes to level to 410 (The stats I've seen put it at about 1650 Titan runes to get from 250 to 410). Oh, and lets not forget you still need lots and lots of keyrunes too albeit there a touch easier to get, but not by much.
They need to put the crafting quests that existed in beta back in or they need to lower the mat requirements, because as of right now it is pretty impossible for you to level to 410 unless you have an entire guild farming just for you.
I'm all for it being hard/expensive to level crafitng but TERA is way too hard for anyone who doesn't play 24/7 and have an entire guild farming for him/her to do.

Sooo some of you are almost 300 in crafting already the game has barely been live for 8 days and you guys think it's crazy and needs to be changed / easier....
There really needs to be only one kind of Leather and Arun/Shura/Titan rune for all recipes and then one kind of special boss rune for making attuned items. The game is new yes, but it's been over a week, and there's little to no lower level runes in the broker since most people just NPC them or out leveled the mobs to fast to have gained enough.
Having every mob drop the same crafting material for all level of items will make crafting much easier. Higher levels can farm what they need to craft, and with the increased income at cap level, runes will sell for a decent amount. So lower levels can either save up all the runes they obtain to level crafting or sell them out for money to buy equipment.
This thread really does need as much attention as it can get as the points brought up are all extremely valid and should definitely be addressed.
At the very least make the requirements soloable. Like stated above, you shouldn't need a full guild farming just for one person to be able to craft.
I'm sorry but the game has been out for 8 days this thread wont be needed 10 weeks from now when everyone has 100's of these runes and the economy is F****ed up because you people want recipes changed.
The problem really is about inflation. Money is next to worthless. Thus people hoard mats without any need to sell. My guild of 8 active players have 200+ titan runes but why sell it if gold is useless and we might need these later? Cut sell values of weapons in half and half gold from drops and quests. Reduce runes needed to craft slightly and 5x the npc bought parts in crafts thus costing more gold directly so it is lost to the npcs.
This is the same issue that existed in CBT and it was supposedly said that they were going to be revamping crafting so it was a moot issue. Now comes release and crafting remains this overinflated material gorge where even white items require a somewhat ridiculous amount of runes to craft.
This is especially irksome as the guild quests to help level you past 250 are missing from the game. They either need to be reintroduced or the material requirements for items needs to be drastically lowered.
Even in a guild of 100+ players with designated Master Crafters we have run into this bottleneck of rune requirements.
