No not comparing the two games in terms of the actual game.
People continue to spew forth garbage about how ever MMO that has had a cash shop in an NA has failed.
Using that bit of erroneous information to draw the line that it means Tera will fail.
I offer two examples of two MMOs, you know because they're all in the same genre and no they aren't the same games, where "cash shops" and "premium services" didn't NOT cause the game to fail.
Obviously cash shops and offering premium services do not cause MMOs to fail especially if the number 1 most successful MMO (like it or hate it) has both plus merchandise.
Initial point being this isn't the first example of an MMO charging a sub AND having other means of revenue
See the obvious fact some of you are missing, is here's the practical application of this particular issue.
Follow along now...
1. For this game to be successful it has to generate revenue. Especially if the game is to develop post launch and continue to add content, features, fluff , whatever.
a. This game is actually very low key it has seen very little press from gaming media sources and those who have given it a little bit of attention only wrote a few lines about it. So consequently this game needs all the revenue it can get.
2. Subscriptions generate revenue
3. Premium services (server transfers, race changes, name changes, ect stuff nmearly ANY mmo is going to charge you extra for anyway) generate revenue.
4. Cash Shop vanity or otherwise generates revenue.,
5. Merchandise generates revenue.
6. More revenue = more development.
7. More development hopefully means a better game that offers longevity to it's players.
But I'm sensing the majority of people crying foul about paid server transfers and some albeit ridiculously overpriced weaponskins don't really care if the game is successful or not, although I would think they should considering they paid for it and everything.

......
One last time...tell me where I said i cared?
He/she is a troll, the only response you get is a cookie cutter "straw man, ad hominem"
He/She feeds on your tears
hmm let me clear this up..then you can keep flaming.
I care about the game... I care about cash shops In the game... I care about How crappy elin armor look....
what I don't care about is... being flamed...flame away...troll away..I do not care if you guys troll me....
here is another thing I do Not care about... what you people think of me.
I also do Not care if make believe people typing away On their keyboards In places I will never see, meet ot interact with outside this forum think of me.. because.....
Ok..why should I care what you guys think of me again? this is a forum... it's Not Like I will ever meet anyone here right?
isn't that why you guys can be mean and vicious on these forums with others? because upi know you will never meet anyone....
and because you know there will never be any consequences...
so go ahead call me a troll, we both know why you do... you seek to make people feel that Nothing I say should be considered. Why this is I have no idea...
1. you seem to get pleasure from treating people badly, but lack the courage to do this in real life... hence the penchant to do it On an online forum...
2 .. Just a possibility.... you mistake the forum for real life? why not we already havea ton of people mistaking Tera for real life...
Nope, I am not a troll..I do post to engage In Logical discourse about the game... check My posts, you will see me duscussing the game...with some of you... the ones that discuss the game without restorting to logical fallacies.
then I ignore the trolls... you know you you are...
Gives Hempboy 10/10 Browny points.. cuts Him a cake.
here you go hempboy...goood job...* pats hempboy On the head.*

why the hate? seriously....
Permanent suspension for a goodbye post yet they seemingly do nothing about the rampant bullying and verbal abuse that occurs, most of it from the same handful of posters. There's something really wrong with that.
This forum desperately needs an ignore/block function.
Excuse me if I've missed any response, but I've been under the impression that all of us that are disgruntled about "Premium Items" would be addressed soon. Can you give us an ETA for this address please?
What are they going to say? They don't need to respond to anything about THEIR premium services.

i would argue for it, but it's not my argument.. my point is the content is already developed or being developed for the game... it's just being with held and sold exclusively... What's the difference between the 2 skins (gold vs vanity ones) besides looks, one is being sold and the other given for free... Sure one makes more money, and it's a business. I just feel the practice is wrong. Usually more cash/vanity stuff just leads to more development into that field. Most people just care about money.... with that speculation the cash/vanity shop will remain. However i still feel it's a wrong practice.
Well EmE has already said the vanity shop will never contain anything other than vanity yes?
Of course they'll wish to further develop that particular system but drawing a conclusion between vanity shop eventually mutating into a P2W shop is exactly speculation at this point, and honestly is something that should be addressed when that particular problem arises.
I don't particularly care I'm used to MMOs charging money for server transfers, race changes, name changes, ect...
The weapon skins likewise don't mean anything to me. I'm not going to buy them, at least not for 10 bucks per skin, that's ridiculous. If the price was lower then perhaps I might.
But I dont begrudge EmE and Blue Hole for trying to make extra on the side. In fact I'd love to see them put up some merchandise along with the rest of it. Or would the opponents to the shop expect to have all of that included in their sub too?
Basically I have no issue what-so-ever with this and I support this game that I do currently enjoy fully in whatever it needs to do to continue to bring me entertainment.
IF there comes a point where the vanity shop is a necessity for me to continue to enjoy the game (i.e. for me to ever evolve my character's appearance past current endgame I MUST buy skins), OR the Vanity chop mutates into a P2W then I will change my stance and argue against it.
Until that day comes. It should stay to continue as a revenue source for the game.
I Just watched someone from EA talking about a free2play combat game they had out... they had assured their customers they would not sell pay for advantage items... then he comes to the part where there were lay offs around at EA, and they feared for their Jobs... so they Looked Into what they could do in their " Game store" ..they added pay for advantage items... and .. their profits went up....
....
ya.. exactly before that he mentioned that they had said they wouldn't add pay for advantage, then after they did.. he just forgets to say anything about it as if he had walked away from any assurances he had made to his customers..
he then shows tons of data about forum posters buying pay for advantage items, as if that made it ok.
so 2 reasons he gave why it was ok.
1. he feared for his job.... and that means he can screw his playerbade by going back on his word..( companies go back on their word when they seek higher profits... it's those 3 words " sibject to change")
and 2. he Knew that most objectors would not leave the game, but. preferr to play, problem is, to compete...they would have to buy pay for advantage items.
I sat there floored. Mostly because his attitide is.." as long as profit increases I don't give a [filtered] if I told the player base we would never do this to them.... I did it, and have no remorse going back on my word to My customers.. profits when up,. means I can tell them ONE thing to get them to play the game...then... go back on what I told them to maximize profits..."
But hey, we can all rest easy...the devs have told us.... they would never sell pay2 win items...

No I am sure we did.
he did say that he had told their playerbase there would be No pay for advantage items...
and then he and his staff feared being laid off....
and then they put cash for advantage items On the cash shop even though they promised they never would...
then after that all he did was show how
1. 3 % of players post... and .. they can be ignored. because the Posters that post will never leave and eventually they will also shop.
Please. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that I don't enjoy reading posts by people who are incapable of presenting a reasonable counter argument, or a respectful disagreement, and instead resort to the type of childish and cruel behavior I'd expect to see in a common school yard.
