How does rest experience work?

Sorry for such a dumb question, I just never thought much about it before. My one character is a bit over 40 and it's starting to occur to me I might want to let her rest up now and again.

I looked in the game guide, and all I saw there was a description of the experience bar. Tried searching, and end up getting between 90 and 190 with really angry topics that don't seem like they'd have anything to do with experience, much less a topic where the simple question was asked and answered.

Can you be anywhere?
Do you have to be in a major city?
Any place with a big fire?
About how much do you get per 'n' period of time?

I think I might try tinkering around with a Warrior or maybe one of the plate wearing classes a bit as a second character while I let her rest up. Thanks.

You need to be in a city to get rested XP. When you are in an area that will give you rested xp there will be an icon that appears near your radar that will say "rest area" or something if you hover over it.

And just to clarify - city meaning the main city of the province (the first one you visited). NOT the outposts located throughout it that act as quest hubs.

^ yes. To simplify, you can only get rested exp in an area that the unstuck function will bring you to. So just use unstuck before every time you log out to get rested exp.

Oh that's actually better. I thought it meant it had to be the big main city I went to after the island we all started on. So any town with the blue title in each main area?

Pretty much. There's a little icon near your minimap that turns into a round-ish crystal when you're in a rest area (you can mouse over it to double-check and make sure it really is a rest area).

Also, if you're wondering just how rest exp works:

Whenever you're not logged into a character that's in a rest area, they'll gain rested exp. This is "bonus" exp that doesn't help you level up directly, but whenever you kill a mob, a portion of your rested exp (equal to the normal exp from killing the mob) gets converted into normal exp.

There is a cap to how much rested exp you can get however; the higher level you are, the longer it takes to reach that cap. It also seems to take longer to use up the rested exp you get the higher level you are though, so it's more just a larger cap than less bonus.
