Hypersexualization of Women?

Have you looked at the men? They're sexualized too, although yes not to the same extreme. Still, it seems that there's someone for mostly everyone to like: the lanky guy, the big muscle guy, the large chested woman, and a flat chested small woman. Honestly, I'm amazed that someone finally said, "flat chested women are sexy too!" and made the elin the way they are.

I have and I agree, it's refreshing to see some not butt-ugly looking males for once. But yes, certainly not to the degree of the women, we'd have to be seeing some chain mankinis for that to happen.

I never liked the concept of scantily clad "warriors", which usually only included women. Makes no sense defensively and makes the purpose of armor, which is to protect your body from harm, moot.

That being said, TERA isn't exactly realistic in any sense. Giant weapons wielded with ease, nearly neekid women fighting armies of monsters, blahblah etc, etc. It's how the producers and designers made the game. Sex sells and well... you've got to accept it for what it is and not fight against it. There are other games that probably seem more realistic in terms of having females in armor that actual armors them, like Rift, but this is TERA so yeah, make do.

I am not sure why people think that games that have armor where women show skin are being encouraging women to be portrayed as "hypersexualized" or "trampy".

Skin is natural, none of the races is showing so much skin that it would be considered indecent or illegal. Some of the outfits even closely resemble national dresses from some cultures where showing skin is not considered "immoral".

The problem with society isn't that women are being shown with skin (gasp), it's that somehow that's become perceived as indecent.

I'm sorry about the rant, but really - it's a fantasy game, I don't want "average" or "realistic" looking characters, if I wanted that I'd play the Sims.

Oversexualized images of women are a big part of attracting gamers unfortunately and it would be unrealistic to get rid of them completely...

However, Tera is really taking this concept and going over the top with it and honestly, I think they're going too far. If people want to play female characters in next to nothing, then by all means, let them do so, but by that token, if someone wants to play a female character that looks like she is actually armored or wearing something that an actual human being may decide they would wear to battle, then let them do that too.

Giving sexy outfits will win you fans, but when you make that almost the only choice, you alienate a very large part of your fanbase.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited for this game and will buy it, but I want to play this game with my girlfriend and I'm not sure if she's really going to stick with me on this game if every woman she sees in game (except for Elin) are anorexic and near-naked.

Except, that's not correct at all. /sigh Internet, oh you.

You are a troll.

If you aren't, go try and model armors. You'll see what we're talking about.

You do realize that you can keep the look of one armor and the stats of another right?
If you want to play as a female and prefer designs that cover the body, find one you like, and just use the looks of it with the stats of another set. :3

Also, I think "anorexic" is a stretch and insulting to petite built women... :/
There is nothing wrong with being skinny.

Sure, the men are sexualized...but that's still like comparing a dwarf to a basketball player. They both have height, but you would only consider one of them tall.

@ Fatwa: Take a look at the female armors and you'll see that those pics you posted are pretty tame. 2:11 is probably the best example of this.

I don't think this game is to bad really, I've played games that armor falls off as you take damage...all the way down to the ittie bitties (if you know what I mean). If you really wanna see a MMO be a little ridiculous, check Queens Blade (yes the MMO). just sayian :P

Also @ExValkyrie ~ I agree completely, skinny girls are awesome!

Ok, I apologize on the use of anorexic. I guess I was pushing it a bit there.

However, even if you can choose the armor you want by image alone, there extremely few armor sets that are not oversexualized. See the above video as an example.

Even if it's not the armor, if someone wants to play a female character that is not sexualized, they have one choice: Elin.

If someone wants to play a male character, they have plenty of choices, whether they want sexualized or not.
