I for one, can't go back to "normal" MMOs now.

After the last beta event, I just can't tolerate the tab target impossible to avoid most attacks combat that current major MMOs offer anymore.

At their core, every MMO is essentially the same, differing only in graphics, animations, and skills.

Quests are all escort X, kill X Ys, click X Ys... voice overs don't change that fact, and they're only really interesting the first time you hear them. At least Tera makes no real attempt to hide this in a half-assed attempt at story.

Mobs are all the same, frontal AOE, back AOE, 360 AOE, single target light or hard hits, ranged attacks, ground target aoes... the difference in Tera is that I can avoid auto attacks by stepping 2 inches to the left when I see a swing. Mob's don't autofollow and autohit me based on some RNG roll.

Gear is pretty much the same, trumping skill in many cases. Crafting is the same, making items that aren't as good as drops. Dungeons exist, raids exist...There's mounts.

In Tera, armor is modifiable. There's your standard korean enchanting system that no western MMO has really embraced for some reason.

The world fits together visually, characters and mobs don't look out of place or of contrasting art styles...

PvP battles in Tera are a billion times better than other MMOs because of the combat system. You don't die in 2 hits, battles aren't over in 10 seconds. You can actually have GOOD fights.

Tera has everything that every other western MMO has, and then the good parts of eastern MMOs. So why would I want to go back to WoW or Rift or SWToR? I can grind reputation, farm gold, and run the same instances over and over again in Tera... but have a lot more fun because combat at least requires that I pay a miniscule amount of attention, where as in other games I can fall asleep at my keyboard and still keep playing.

This. One of my friends told me he didn't "like the grind" and would be sticking with WoW. Blizzard has put a lot of effort into making some of the quests more innovative, but in the end the premise is the same "Go kill X mobs.....WHILE DRIVING A TANK."

Any MMO involves some type of grind. The question is how much fun are you having doing it?

I loved Tabula Rasa. I loved it more before they totally jacked it all up in the last week of beta. NC Soft was way too quick to pull the plug on it given all the money they had spent. Hellgate London wasn't honestly that bad either, though it was a lot clunkier than any sane person would like.

One of the contributing downfalls of those games was the lack of a real or enjoyable PvP system.

What's your point?

I feel like in future games to come forum goers are going to have to answer the question "Does this game have combat like tera" from nub-comers a lot.

I 100% agree with Thecyris, I tried playing other MMOs between Tera beta's and no luck. I canceled my sub with Star Wars and raved about tera in the comment section where they ask you "why are you leaving?" while I bashed their game.

But Notix has a point, Tabula Rasa was the first MMO I played that had the same type of system as Tera. But it was a combination of both, tab targeting and point-and shoot. But damn... I miss Tabula Rasa, I would be canceling my sub there to come here right now if they didn't kill it =(

I felt what killed it was the lack of end game, there was like one instance and that was it, until it's last days when they added the earth maps that they obviously didn't have time to finish. But yes I agree, pvp was poor and terribly unbalanced. A ton of weird nerfs and the fact that the game grossed a little over a million while NC Softs top game Lineage 2 made over 34 million in the same year. Sad.
