Sorry fanboys but i'm out. You just don't understand how old WoW has gotten. I have really tried and I just can not seem to bring my self to keep playing that old crusty game that just isn't interesting anymore.

So today i logged on to my WoW account and cancelled, (like i haven't done it before right, lol?). But this time its fo real! After playing CB1 and CB2 of Tera Ii can tell mmo's are getting better and better and rather Tera sustains and becomes a leading mmo on the market or not I can just feel the age of failing mmo's are over. Now more than ever developer's are wanting their games to succeed and are giving that extra push to keep the games alive.

Alas, I do truly know that my little sub isn't going to kill WoW, no, no its not. I do not believe for one moment that Tera is going to kill WoW. But I do believe that with ToR, Tera, GW2 and the many other mmo's on the way the combined efforts will cause the population of WoW to shrink down and maybe Blizzard can finalily figure out what direction to go in and what type of player to cater to instead of just trying to please way to many players that no one should ever try to please..

As far as my play style, I want a challenge present, I want to know that the mobs out in the world are really out to kill me and its going to take some wits to make it past them. I've become more casual in my days and I don't want to play all the time, but that doesn't mean I want a game that's dumb down to where any moron can walk around in top tier gear.

If YOU, yes you... are totally hardcore and have the best gear in mmo's and know better to stand in fire. I just want you to know I Tatersaladin, salute you and I for one do not feel I deserve to walk around in the same gear as you with little to no effort but I do wish to enjoy a challenging world with you.

I second every word you said. Won't cancel WoW now cuz I got the annual pass and I want my Diablo 3, but won't be logging in there much after TERA launches.

The thing that pissed me off most about WoW is how the PLAYERBASE has become. They don't CARE about being good players anymore, and they embrace ever raid nerf as the solution to their problems "yay, now that the raid is nerfed, we'll be able to progress further! /cheer". They just blurt out the word "casual" like it's the wildcard excuse for not knowing how to play or paying minimal attention to what's going on in a raid.

Then I posted on the official forums that I was recruiting people for a group that would raid with nerfs off, and press on bosses till they drop, even if it takes 50x wipes to accomplish this. No giving up on heroic progression, no using nerfs, just PERSISTENCE, CHALLENGE, and us pressing each other to be better at each attempt. What happened? ZERO ANSWERS. ZERO. NOBODY wants to be challenged. Everybody just want the easy route, reward with minimum effort.

And after that, and seeing as how the gameplay is in TERA and how we are STIMULATED here to be good instead of being hand-holded our way to the endgame, I think I'm very likely to abandon WoW for good, even after 7 years of continuous playing.

Hey Alex,

I didn't feel the need to quote your whole post so meh. Any who, i totally agree. I may not be so up tight as I use to be but I can tell you for a fact that Progression should always matter, and There should always be some kind of challenge (even in old tiers) to over come and strive to conquer.

But Blizzard choked on its own subs and structure in Wraith when 3.3 came out and made it last a whole freaking year with nothing else but a dumb dragon off on the side to kill. Bad form Blizzard, bard form.

I'm 100% with you. I signed up for that 12 month thing (because Blizzard is smarter than me and saw Tera and GW2 coming down the pipeline and knew they were screwed) and I haven't logged in for two months. So I did what any reasonably shady person would do.... I canceled the credit card I used for the subscription... I know, [filtered] move, but Blizzard isn't getting any more money from me.

Yea... exactly my point. The thrilling of downing a boss after hours of continuous wipes is priceless, but nowadays people there get bored and frustrated if they don't progress in a timely manner. And they don't want to get better so they can surpass the obstacles, they just whine and quit if they don't see results. And blizzard started catering for this type of player.

And it seems to be paying off, for blizzard at least. The playerbase has shifted to like the easy-going, not-demanding kind of PvE environment WoW became to be designed to. But I'm not like that. I want to be challenged. I want to PAY for my mistakes. I want the small margin for error. and I want to play with people who also like to be challenged. And I figured I won't have that with WoW, simple as that.

I love this mentality. Not so much that this game fails, this game wins. It's more so that different games cater to different people and that is ok. I hope that the niche game concept becomes more excepted throughout the whole mmo genre. That games can focus less on pleasing absolutely everyone enough to keep them for a few month and more on keeping their small(er) community pleased for years.
