i swear these threads are made by guys who just really want to roll a female toon but they desperately need a "valid" excuse they can give people because someone is gonna think they're weird.

I like to play them so i'm gonna.

There ya go guys thats my reason i think its awesome.

When did the trend for desires of rolling female toons start? Adolescence? Young adult hood?

Puberty. I don't know why people continue to ask this question in every MMO. It's self-explanatory. Moreso in TERA than any other MMO.

I don't understand why you would ever roll your own gender in a videogame given a choice honestly. Games are not yet at a level that can make you feel like your avatar, you are merely controlling them. I couldn't care less what happens to a male MMO avatar with no story behind it.

I view game avatars as cast members and myself as the director so I don't see my characters as "me" and the typical 'gender bending' idea doesn't really apply.

And as a side not, I follow a Matriarchal faith system. For lack of a better term, "God is a woman" or in truth (the way I see it) the creator is feminine. Having powerfull female characters in my world is a natural thing for me.

Some classes and races look better as a different sex.

Always made my defensive characters male and offensive characters female.
It gets fuzzy with dual wielding and mainly depends which one looks better.

Large weapon users - always female.

Not because I don't wanna look at a male butt (I'm very comfortable with my sexuality to not be bothered by that) or that I want to look at female anatomy (I can wake the gf up for that).

Simply class and race and which ever I feel looks better in the armour and weaponry supplied for that class/race.

I play both male and female characters because I don't care what a third party says, nor do I have any ingrained logic via growing up being exposed to one or the other. I grew up like a normal boy, I played with action figures, I idolized the cool superheroes, but at a young age I was exposed to the option of being able to play a male or a female character. At 9, I played NexusTK, a game where you could quite cheaply and easily switch your appearance and your gender. So my character was never static, and changed frequently. After that it seemed normal to have a female character, and it wasn't until I played vanilla WoW that I realized some people thought it weird.

The simple answer is, "because there's no reason why not to". Just as it's not "homo" to play a male character, it's not "homo" to play a female character. It's just playing a character. Even those men who choose to roleplay as a woman aren't even that out there. It's fairly acceptable and I don't see why we should be upset about it when it's just roleplay, and when it's for the most part private.

Guy here... For me it's like this. I plan on spending the next couple years with this toon.... rather would stare at a beautiful looking female from behind than a guy for hours at a time.

Someone said the dressup thing.. I guess that has an element too... like how hot, beautiful, regal, etc can I make her look.

I started up a male high elf priest today on EU pvp server and I just really think I'll be happy to go back to Lorenia next Friday! tyvm.

If the male toons didnt look and act like female toons, I might be more apt to playing a male toon. Beside females have boobies!!

so many morons here rofl. If i was happy to be a guy, or didn't mind it like b4, i'd still play male toons, i like being true to who i am. That's all, but the community how it is makes me feel like rolling a male toon somewhere along the lines. Only issue is, i hate muscles, male Castanics have muscles, and i wan't to main a Castanic, so my main will have to remain a Female Castanic Warrior. Maybe i'll roll my sorc as a male High Elf. But my Slayer is definitively staying an Elin. And i want to roll an archer too, wonder what would be a fun race for that. Probably another Elin. Or maybe a Popori, or a female human.

Henry the fifth had his soldiers go into battle with drawings and rough paintings of beautiful women, birds, flowers and girl children on the inside of their shields. The soldiers did this not because they were sissies but because in the horror of battle hey could look at something beautiful to ease the weight of what they were seeing and doing. Being a man is a hard thing. Working full time, going to school and taking care of your stuff (and sometimes your woman's stuff most likely, hey it happens) is hard. Sometimes you just want to sit back and watch some cute, stupid crap. It doesn't make you a sissy, it just means you like girls and can appreciate feminine qualities.
