Sometimes I feel I'm barely helping the group. I'm pretty decent, I know my combos and can avoid whats needed to avoid, but damn the damage I do feels like its just a fraction of the other classes. Get 2 charges in on a thunderstrike or a 3rd+overcharge and you hit them, hit barely ever crits. And a chunk of the time they somehow happen to move right when its about to slam. So thats seconds of doing nothing (even glyphed for slick).
Then Flatten suffers the same demise. Before it hits some how the enemy dodges and its wasted. To top if off since you charge most of your attacks, you either cancel it/half [filtered] charge it/ or get destroyed by whatever AOE move the boss is going to do.
I do love playing the class, because they they move is so enjoyable to watch but my god its so ineffective < < Any other beserkers suffer it out? Reroll? What are your thoughts on this class compared to the others.
How about the feeling you get, when you crit an target and the health bar drops 20%....
Thats why I rolled Zerker :p
Personally there is just something immensely satisfying to be able to whip out a huge axe to swing around and the weight of the axe and the attack animations are cool. Also when I play my mystic with a group of people I don't know in an instance, it does make me feel a bit safer as well since the heavy armor helps.
I encourage you to stick to whatever you have fun playing, and although we don't have a set date yet we are working bringing the berserker improvement as well.
What level are you, and what area are you running? Back when my Zerker was running CR, the first trip through there I felt the same way you are feeling. It seemed like I could just afk and my party wouldn't slow down any
After I ran through once and I leveled, I got a new set of ts/cyclone levels as well as a new weapon with a nice boost. The second time I ran through my damage was nearly doubled, and I could tell I was really helping out. I was getting 50k-60k crits on all of the bosses at that point
I love how the class plays, and now that Warriors can queue as tanks, I'll be playing mine again. I like to play mine with "hit and run" in mind. Just practice and make sure to land as many as your hits as you can
I main this class and have been since beta. I read all the feedback where mostly people were whining about it and calling it underpowered, etc but still decided to roll it. The main reason why I picked it was because the play style is really unique in my opinion in mmos. I do not regret it, most people trash talking the class are people who never played it or never took it to 60. The class does DPS and it is true that it is high risk and high reward if you miss moves. But with practice and time you will come to realize the class is fine. The dps the class puts out is comparable to other dps but it is a little harder to do it. If you give up on it or just can't figure out how to play it then theres nothing anyone can do for you. You are better off rerolling. I am not saying they do not need any fixes or tweaks in the future but the problems are minimal compared to the way people talk about them on forums.
Level difference has a big impact on damage in this game. If the archer was even just a level or two above you, depending on the level of the mobs you were fighting, it could be the reason why he was doing so much more.
I'm not going to lie, it's a little rough for Berserkers right now, and it doesn't get better at 60. Higher level mobs, especially in dungeons, tend to move a bit quicker and jump around more than they did at lower level, and it makes maximizing your potential difficult. It doesn't help that Slayers can hit just as hard as we can despite not having the mobility issues, which personally I don't think is right, but it is what it is.
Like Minea said, improvements are in the works, although they could be a while in coming. My advice to people who ask about playing a berserker has always been: don't play a berserker unless you really like playing a berserker. The game won't be very nice to you right now, our dps isn't competitive enough, Lancers will kick you out of groups, and pvp is often frustrating. If you aren't having fun, it won't be worth it, but if you are having fun, just remember that it's a game, and that is all that matters.
Strahley made an important point as well. DPS suffers big time from being lower level than dungeon mobs. If you are even one level lower than the mobs in a dungeon, you're not going to hit them very hard.
A few things that I found to help when leveling are, first, buy a new weapon every few levels. Unless you really get into the excitement of farming a dungeon until your weapon drops, it's a lot more efficient to just buy the gold weapon for your level range. They're usually very affordable and you can enchant them up to +6 pretty easily. If you use enigmatic scrolls to reset their stats until you get +8% attack speed it can be a small help in mitigating the painfully slow attack animations (although it won't speed up charging at all).
Another thing is to solo BAMs. A lot of the dungeon bosses in this game are just tougher versions of BAMs, occasionally with a few new moves. By learning to solo many different BAM models you will become very familiar with their attack animations and timings. This will give you a real edge in learning when to block, when to charge, or when to move, and can really make you more efficient.
Maybe at lower levels damage becomes an issue, but I generally don't have a problem with it end game. My crits range from 300-400k depending on conditions and I'd say I crit around 1 out of every 4 hits using TS.
Not saying that zerkers don't need some lovin', evident from Minea having to comment in this thread to support berserkers, but it's not TOO big of an issue later in the game.
